Grains of Sand

“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God! They are innumerable!
I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!”

(Psalm 139:17-18b)

It is amazing to me how often we truly lose sight of Christ’s love for us. There are moments, in each of our lives, that we feel unloved, unwanted, or just invisible.

We long for friendships, community and a sense of belonging and forget that He longs to be all of that for us. How that must break His heart! He has given us so many examples of His love for us, but sadly when we hit rock bottom, we rarely take the time to search out our purpose.

Have you ever thought about that word- and its meaning to us as Christians. Have you ever really sat and reflected on the gift we have been given as Christians, because now our lives have purpose? Its a life altering thought, if you truly think about it! Our visions on our purpose, and His plans for our purpose are usually so far from each other- Yet He shares our purpose and His love for us on so many levels through His word! That in itself is amazing to me!

He has a purpose for me!

Think about it. Before you found Christ (because He always knew exactly where you were!) you really had no significant eternal purpose. You had earthly purpose, we all do. We all have rolls we must fill on a daily basis. But eternally, we were lost- hopeless. Because of His death on the cross, and our acknowledgment of His gift, we have eternal purpose!

Yet, we find ourselves searching still.

Searching for acceptance and acknowledgment.

Searching for fulfillment.

For love…

His love is so much more than we could ever imagine, if only we would truly acknowledge its power and accept its true meaning. I am amazed sometimes at how much my faith is lacking. I am amazed at how often I search for Him in situations, when all along had I just reached my hand out, His was right there waiting to take hold of me and guide me. I spend so much time (as we all do) with my eyes focused on earthly things- things that are meaningless. I lose sight of my Savior!

“For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up. And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.” – Jeremiah 24:6-7

He set His eyes upon us- For Good! How amazing is that! Despite our wretchedness, He still has a purpose for us- He set his eyes on us for Good!

Don’t lose sight of your purpose. Don’t trade your joy for sorrow! This life is just a glimpse of what eternity holds, and our purpose as believers is so amazingly bright! It is so easy to direct our eyes to the pain and heartache we suffer. Its easy to lose focus and feel alone. But remember that you are loved by an eternal Savior, a Savior who has promised you so much more than you can ever imagine.

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful”. -John 14:27

This is just what I needed today. How often I rely on other people to lift me up or love me or encourage me and if they let me down then it brings me down big time. They are human. God and His love is always there. ALways consistent. We’re the ones that change. Not Him! I’m so glad He’s there with an outstretched hand everytime I need Him and even when I don’t ackowledge Him He’s still there waiting.

We are so blessed, aren’t we…just to be chosen by God in itself is the ultimate blessing. You are right, often times it is difficult to stay focused on the purpose God has called us to…the world always wants more. Thank you for your beautiful post.

I just love this verse. I have a bottle of sand from Clearwater Beach, FL with this verse attached, just to remind me how numerous are God’s thoughts of me =)

Love this post and the timing is perfect as I was feeling particularly invisible last night. I knew it was wrong thinking but I wouldn’t allow myself to let go of it. Thank you!

Dear Heather,

Thank you so much for this blog. Oh how we can allow ourselves to focus on what we don’t have instead of what we do. We do have the Best Friend we can ask for right by our side whenever we want him. Any time of day or night, he will not harm us, and he Loves more than anyone else does. Even our parents and spouses and siblings. It is such a gift as you said and we don’t see it at the times we need to see it the most.

You are a blessing and an inspiration to so many. The Lord definitely shines and speaks through you.

I will be keeping you in my prayers.

In Christ’s love & prayers

Thanks for this post Heather! I had one of those moments yesterday, where it just hit me that God REALLY loves it. Lately, my days have been blurring into weeks. I am just feeling exhausted. Yesterday, I was reading Isaiah 43, and verse 4 really sank in.
“Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you”
I re-read it. Since I am precious and honored in the sight of the God of the universe. He love me. It sank in deep. The enormity of the meaning made me burst in tears.
It is so very true that God loves us, really really loves us.

Great to hear from you Heather. It has been awhile. Our new year of Bible study started this past Tuesday and our director always leaves us with a thought for the coming year. This year we are on “The Journey” studying the book of Acts. She asked us to be intentional on our journey – not just knowing who we are but who we are in Jesus and what He wants us to do for Him. We have a great group of ladies who love to encourage one another on this journey called LIFE. May it always be so. I take heart that you are doing this and bringing us with you. May God bless you as you shine your light for others to follow. In Christ’s love, Elaine Wiley Grass Valley, California
