One Thousand Gifts – Details

Tags:  Book Club

We are so excited to begin reading Ann Voskamp’s One Thousand Gifts as a community.

We hope this post will answer some logistical questions for you! If you have additional questions, please feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

What to Expect

Each Sunday, starting February 6, we will post a video discussing a chapter of the book with Ann. You are not going to want to miss these videos. Hearing Ann share her perspective about the chapters brings so much life to the pages. It was a privilege for Angie and me to share several hours with Ann discussing this life changing book– and we hope you will be blessed by the videos.

We will also have posts in the (in)courage BlogFrog community to discuss the videos and chapters in more detail. (So be sure and sign up if you haven’t yet – it’s easy peasy. Just click here.)

Buy a Book, Give a Book – and Get Free Shipping!

One Thousand Gifts is on sale for $10 on DaySpring.com THIS WEEK ONLY. This is the cheapest you will find it anywhere!

When Angie and I first started Bloom almost two years ago, it was very important that everyone be able to participate, regardless of ability to purchase a book.

If you find yourself in a very difficult financial season and are unable to purchase a book, from Wednesday through Friday this week (1/19-1/21) you can fill out a form requesting a free book. (The form will be posted on this page on Wednesday.) We ask that you please be very honest and only request a book if you truly cannot afford the $10. We only have a limited quantity to give away that largely depends on how many sponsors/donations we get.

This is where the community of Bloom beautifully shows up.

If you are able to purchase a book for someone in need, DaySpring has set up a sweet deal for you starting today.

In addition to purchasing your own book, you can choose to purchase a second book for someone in need for an additional $10. (Feel free to give more than one if you can! To purchase a “Sponsor” book, just go here, click on the image of One Thousand Gifts with the red “SPONSOR” button on it and purchase the Sponsor book for $10. This option expires next Monday, January 24)

If you purchase two or more books you get FREE shipping on your book – and DaySpring will take care of getting your donated book to a fellow Bloomie in need. Just use coupon code: BLOOMBOOK (If any other wonderful DaySpring products fall into your shopping cart, those will ship free too! This code will also work if you are purchasing multiple books for yourself).

We are so excited and thankful that DaySpring is managing all the coordination of the donated books – and taking care of the shipping. What a blessing!

With each Bloom book selection, we are always amazed by the community of women who step forward and buy books for their fellow sisters in Christ. THANK YOU to those of you who are able to generously give.

Hi there Ruth –

We do ship internationally – see: http://store.dayspring.com/shipping.html – but the Free book offer will, unfortunately, not be available outside of the US.

I am so excited about this!!! I have followed Ann’s blog for awhile and am amazed at her insight and wisdom.
I don’t want to take away from your book sales but did want to say that One Thousand Gifts is available as an e- book. I downloaded it last week and it is life changing. I am very much looking forward to reading through it with a community.

I am in Australia. Does the deal with Dayspring apply internationally. I love Ann’s book. I bought it for my Kindle as soon as it was available. But it is the kind of book I feel the need to be able to touch and flip the pages back and forth. So just today I purchased two copies from Amazon. One to keep and one to give away. I plan to loan out the copy I am keeping. I will look forward to your discussions about this lovely, inspirng book.

Hey Jennifer,

I wish it did, but unfortunately it does not. And I know just what you mean – it’s definitely the kind of book one wants to be able to mark up with a pen and highlighters!

HOPEFULLY, I will have it by the time we start the first discussion. If not, I’ll just have to catch up. Looking forward to reading this book in community!!! :)

I heard about this book first from Marybeth Whalen’s blog – it was one of her top ten books to read this year. Then about a week later Marybeth Whalen also mentioned Ann’s name in another blog post about giving each year a name. So after these two blog posts I did a quick search and discovered Ann’s blog. I had already added this book as a must read for myself this year and was so excited to see it was chosen as the new book for this book club (which I also just recently found out about).

I just ordered my book this morning and cannot wait for it to get here and start reading! And then I am really eager to get involved with the discussions as well!

And thank you and Dayspring for the great offer on the book!

Actually I’m disappointed that the book club will focus on videos. As I’m deaf, I won’t be able to fully understand the discussions on the videos.

Just a thought for those who can’t afford the book, since there are only a limited number of free books. Most local libraries will order any books you request if it’s not one they already have. (The only time our library didn’t order something for me was when it was an expensive item and it was the end of the year so their budget was low. But since it’s just the beginning of the year you might be able to special request the book from your library).

Hello!
I meet with a group of teachers for a book group, and we want to share One Thousand Gifts; however, is there a way we can share the book at a later time and save the videos to view then? Thank you.

Yes, they will be posted to the book club page, so you can go back and view them anytime.

We ramped up the schedule since so many people have been reading the book so quickly – the new schedule (Sunday/Wednesday) is correct.

Thanks!

Jessica, some ladies from my church are doing a book study/club with Ann’s book, One Thousand Gifts, starting in January 2012. Is there any way to access the videos you did with her back in Jan/Feb of 2011 so we can watch them when we do her book together? Sorry to bother you with this question, but I’m not able to figure this out! Thanks so much and Merry Christmas! Jenny C.
