Bring on the cupcakes and coffee (and some glitter for good measure), we are celebrating today!
Today is the day that we announce the name change of the popular Christian women’s blogging and social media conference, Relevant. Relevant is now Allume Social!
What? Why? Where did that come from?
It all started when someone said to me, “have you asked RELEVANT magazine what they think about you being called Relevant?” Hmmm, um, nope, haven’t done that. So I did. I emailed the head man over at RELEVANT and asked him what he thought about the fact that our name was the same as theirs. He was very gracious and just let me know that they had the name trademarked. “Well, that settles it, doesn’t it?” We decided to begin the journey of changing the name. And a journey it was. HOURS of research and prayer and council and we finally landed on the name “allume” (say it a few times: ah-loom – just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?).
The word “allume” means “light” in French. We, being writers and creatives, have taken liberties with the word which is why we are pronouncing it “ah-loom“. We chose this beautiful word because our vision for all we do is that we let Christ, the Light, come into our souls and bring to light all the dark places, and we in turn reflect that light to the world.
“But wait, ” you’re thinking, “I thought the conference was called allume social?” Oh yes friend, it is. Allume is the new community, and allume social is the conference that falls under the community. Turns out we had a much bigger vision than for just the conference.
Here’s a handy dandy graphic to help explain:
Allume is kind of like a conference all year round. We’ll be rolling out all the goodness in the near future, but in the meantime…
Celebrate with us tonight? We are having a Twitter party celebrating the Allume launch at 9pm EST under hashtag #allume. There will prizes, fun, and proverbial cupcakes. You can find out more by clicking here.

Congratulations Sarah (and the team) What an exciting new day! My favorite verse has always been Ephesians 5:8 ” For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.” so I am loving the new name!
Sarah Mae says
Yes, that verse, it needs to be on our site!
Love you Donna!

This is awesome and I can’t wait to see how it all rolls out! I love the word allume, its light-bringing and encouragement. I called my Christian jewelry business Arise Designs, when I felt the Lord saying get up and do something! You’ve come out of the dark and its time to bring the light. The website will debut shortly, God willing, because its been a struggle. But hey, its hard work to spead the Good News sometimes, but it will be worth every ounce of energy. Looking forward to what you will be doing and seeing how I can connect.

I love the new name and I am so thrilled about how you guys came about the name change. Thank you for telling us the story behind it. God really does illumine us to the deepest darkest places of our souls with all of Him and all of his light! How fitting of a name!
Rébecca N. says
Hum… I don’t want to be a party pooper or anything but… “allume” does not mean “light” in French. Light is lumière in French. “Allume” is the imperative form of the verbe “allumer” which means “to turn on”. So “allume” means “turn on…” the computer, the fire, the vacuum, cleaner, the light switch… whatever.
Arcelia says
“to turn on.” that’s a good clarification and I don’t think you are being a party pooper, you are just collaborating and providing your piece of information that you have which is appreciated.
When I first saw the name “allume” I thought it meant: all- U (God) (in) me… (all God in me) like John 3:30 “He must increase I must decrease” as a devoted follower i want what i write to be less of me and more of Him.
Then I read their explanation and think it is awesome–shine the Light–He is the Light, because He lives in us we shine His Light…then i read your comment and I thought…wow something even better than I thought:
“Do not quench the Spirit” 1 Thessalonians 5:19 some versions say “do not PUT OUT the Spirit”
this makes sense….especially since the ‘symbol’ they use is FLAMES–yes representing LIGHT. And now this is what I see…
1. God the Father: “This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5
2. God the Son (Jesus): “Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 8:12
3. God the Holy Spirit: “Do not quench the Spirit” 1 Thessalonians 5:19; And “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands” 2 Timothy 1:6; and read Acts 2:1-4
and….where we come in as writers (if you are a Christian):
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14
iam thankful for you Sarah Mae, Jessica, Logan, Cristin, Brooke and the “accountant dudes” for implementing a desire God put in your hearts, creating this “city on a hill” forum to encourage one another and shine for His glory! Praying He will prosper according His glorious riches in Kingdom value!

May God’s peace and grace wash over this event and community!

Nothing wrong with changing your name, but they cannot trademark the word relevant;)
Relevant magazine–right you couldn’t have a magazine named relevant but they can’t prohibit people from using a common English word.
I trademarked my store name when I owned a brick and mortar store. I didn’t own the words in my store name. They were trademarked for my state and for that type of business.

Beautiful! It really sounds wonderful! I haven’t been to the conference yet…tickets run out so fast! Which is a true testament to what God is doing through this amazing ministry! But I pray for all of you every year! And now I am SO excited about the Allume community! I can’t wait to be a part of it! I love the new name and the new big concept that is growing with it! Congratulations! I look forward to being a part of what God is doing with your community and as His light shines in our own little corners of the internet world.
Thank you for what you are doing!!
