The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17
I just love this verse. I love the reminder of how He is always with us. I love the reminder of how much He loves us and cares for us. How He delights in us and rejoices over us with singing! It fills my heart with such joy when I think of it. So I thought it would be the perfect inspiration for a little floral decoration project for the house!
We will start by making the wire flower petals. Cut a piece of wire and loop it into the size of petals you want for the center of the flower, then twist it together at the bottom. Repeat this for as many flower petals you want to use. I made 5 of this size, but only used 4.
Next, make another set of petal shapes for the outside petals that are a bit larger than your first set. I made 5 of this size.
At this time, shape them into the shape you want your final flower petals to be, keeping them as flat as you can. Mine have an irregular shape. You could also make them round or teardrop shape.
Now you need to gather some tissue paper and decoupage or gel medium. I used two colors of tissue paper, a lighter color for my outside petals and a rusty brown for my center petals. You could use all the same color for your petals or you could use several different colors!
Cut your tissue paper to double the size you need to cover all the petals. I put a piece of waxed paper under my tissue paper because the tissue will get pretty damp.
Coat half of the tissue with your gel medium or decoupage. Lay the wire petals down on top of that. Spread a little more of your gel medium or decoupage over the wire. Taking care not to tear the tissue. Then fold the other half of the tissue down over top of the wire.
Gently press down all over the petals, making sure the tissue is secured all around the wire.
Do this to both sets of your wire petals.
Let them dry overnight. You want them to be completely dry.
Now tear around each petal. You could also cut around each one, but I liked the look of the rough edge.
Next, put some words from the verse onto the center petals. I used a black fine tip marker. You could also use paint or stamps or letter stickers. I wouldn’t suggest using a ball point pen, it could tear the tissue.
Bend down the wire end of each petal to a 90 degree angle.
Turn them over and gather them together using a piece of wire or tape. I first used a piece of wire, but thought it might be easier to use tape.
Do the same thing with your larger petals now. Bend the ends down to 90 degrees. Lay them over your smaller petals and gather them all together using wire or tape.
At this point, I added a long piece of wire to act as a stem. I simply wrapped it around the base, leaving it as long as my vase. You could tape or wire a dowel to this instead of just using a wire. You could also use florist tape to secure everything together and wrap the wire or dowel completely with the florist tape. Depending on how you plan to use your flower, you may not even want to add a ‘stem’.
Now that your flower is all together, carefully bend the petals to create more shape with the flower. I bent the center petals up and away from the back layer and bent the tips of the larger petals a bit. I love how that gave it so much more dimension and brought the flower to life!
I hope you enjoyed this wire flower project! I think it makes a sweet reminder of His great love for us and how He delights inΒ us, during this month of May flowers!

Oh Jennifer! God uses you at just the right moment. I was weeping and deep crying–my injury–but it feels the same in my heart. So sad. And reading gets hard. Every devotional made no sense. I could not read your post but the art triggered a memory (tears) of using rounded coat hangers and glue and tissue and my first graders created ladybugs that we hung from the ceiling. So I did not then understand the words on your flower as they weren’t a verse. I went up in the post to the Zephaniah passage, and out jumps He will quiet you with His love. I’m going to meditate on this a bit and rest but I just had to let you know. Something you chose to post, God planned for me to read right now when I needed Him to quiet me. With His love. Thank you Sweet friend.
