The crop dust fills the air as the combine goes by for another round. I sit and wait for there to be a good stopping point to hand over a quick lunch in the field. With a full heart, I watch my family harvest. It nearly takes my breath away.
I think about the blood, sweat and tears that is in each crop. I can’t help but think about the incredible faith it takes to be this caretaker of God’s land.
The watching and waiting for all those little seeds. The praying for rain in years when the crops have all but dried up. The praying for no more rain in the years when the fields sit under water for weeks at a time. The praying that nothing more will break down when they are in the middle of planting or harvest and don’t have time to stop to fix a tractor or run for a part. The countless hours of work, from sun up and often until well after that sun goes down. They never give up.
What a crazy way of life, but it is what we know. God chose my family to farm… to be caretakers of the land. What an honor.
This autumn month has brought with it the harvest season. There was a time to plant. There was a time to wait patiently with faith. Now is the time to harvest. Harvest always comes.
I think this verse is such a beautiful reminder of harvest for each of us.
Don’t give up when the journey seems overwhelming.
Don’t give up when your prayers have not yet been answered.
In due time we will reap. Maybe not on our timeline, but in God’s own time. We will reap a harvest as long as we persevere. The fruits will be seen and enjoyed in their time. God’s blessings overflow!
I would love to share this reminder of harvest with each of you. You can click on the image {a free 5″x7″ PDF printable} and you will be able to open or download it, to then print and use in your own home. Personal use only, please. Such a fantastic verse. I’m not a Christian but the Bible still has so much to offer in its beauty and poetry.
Jennifer Studio JRU says
One of my favorite verses for encouragement to ‘keep on going’ during discouraging times!

living in arizona, the summer’s heat can feel like it is never going to end after months of open the oven door temperatures. then one day in almost october it’s as if cool has finally broken down the door and every year the relief of it surprises you.
though we know his faithfulness, god’s showing up sometimes feels like it’s never coming, but it always does.
and the feel of his cool presence making itself known to push back life’s heat. that takes my breath away.
thank you for the encouragement. i needed to be reminded of harvest. xo

I live in New England, and it is fairly impossible to walk outside right now and not be blown away by the beauty that God has created! The visuals, the textures, the clean crisp smell of the air.
I am in a difficult transition time in my life, but autumn reminds me that even though things die in one season, they come back to life in another.
Thank you for the words of encouragement. I will reap a harvest one day. This time is not in vain.
Jennifer Studio JRU says
Yes… this time is not in vain! Thank you, Shelly!

As a former rural Nebraskan, I’ve prayed for rain to start and stop, and I’ve choked on the dust and chaff of harvest!
God takes my breath away when He gives an unexpected harvest from my blood, sweat and tears. He reaps the incorruptible harvest of righteousness–the kind that doesn’t rot in a bin : )
Thanks for the print. My mom will have time to print it since they’re “relaxing” after 3 inches of rain!
Jennifer Studio JRU says
Oh that rain was something! Hasn’t rained like that in so long. Thanks for sharing how He takes your breath away, Shauna… beautiful!

Our family knows exactly how the farming harvest feels as we are right in the middle of praying for the rain to stop so we can finish our corn silage that will feed our cows all winter. Thank you for this encouragement and it is also nice to know we are not alone in any of this. 🙂
Jennifer Studio JRU says
Yep… harvest has stopped here too for the rain! It does help to know we are not alone. Praying you are able to finish the silage soon, Stephanie!
Beth Williams says
God always provides just what we NEED–not what we want! It seems to come on His timetable!
I love the idea of being a kind of Pioneer woman cooking meals and harvesting crops. There are various ways one can reap a harvest. All we have to do is just keep plugging away and sooner or later a harvest will appear for us!
Jennifer Studio JRU says
Exactly, Beth… so beautifully said!
Ashley says
God takes my breath away often, but I am always in awe when he returns me to a prayer to show me how far He has brought me and How He has answered that prayer in such a way that I didn’t even know He was doing it but to look back and see His work is breath taking fore sure. I also love when He gives me insight and I get a glimps of how He worked that out 🙂
Jennifer Studio JRU says
Oh I love that, Ashley! Those moments that we don’t even realize what is happening until we have the gift of perspective to look back and see Him. A beautiful thing! Thanks so much for sharing!
