Therefore we do not lose heart.
Though outwardly we are wasting away,
yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving
for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen,
since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18

I’m up at 2 am reading this because my foot is swollen and in so much pain post surgery. I’m so glad our light and momentary troubles will be far out weighed by what is to come. Lord, grant me peace to get through each hour. Help me to use this time to pray and give thanks…
Blessings,
Bev

This verse is my constant reminder, that living with chronic illness is only temporary and better things are coming. The wasting away in this life is hard, but I am so thankful that one day I will look into my saviors face and be made whole.

Thank you for this beautiful scripture today. It is so comforting, as I have battled chronic pain for ten years. I have also had debilitating migraines almost everyday. None of the medications work for me.

Thank you Jesus that we are being renewed day by day. And for this we can stand on your word and your promise. My prayer is that each of you will be richly blessed regardless of your circumstances and know that you are not your circumstances. We all must remember to wait on The Lord any HE will renew our strength. In this life we will have trials and tribulations, but our Heavenly Fathers says I have conquered the world. What a mighty God we serve! Please pray for me that God will continue to strengthen me through my daily struggles in life.

Thank you for this post. I am going through a very, very difficult time in my life and I really needed to hear this verse. The pain I carry in my heart is overwhelming right now and God reminded me through this post that He is with me always and my pain is not in vain.

I love this verse. This could be the theme for anyone suffering…with pain, grief, hardship, loss etc. Having a chronic disease sure fits the description of ‘the outer nature wasting away’ BUT the day by day inner nature renewal is happening too. Our momentary afflictions are preparing us for an eternal glory beyond all measure. Some day we will be trading in our old beat up bodies for new glorious ones…I can’t wait!

As Rachel Lundy said ” these are favorite verses”. I have gone back and read them at different times today. I do indeed seem to be “wasting away” and now facing some things that scare me. I so want to inwardly grow closer to Jesus and feel His comfort and peace. I also need His help in growing in trusting Him and knowing that He is faithful.

I love these verses. I know that some day my body will be perfect–skinny, with no shoulder pain.
Prayers for everyone here with some kind of illness, or pain! May God heal you and give you the peace and comfort you need!
Blessings 🙂

The season of suffering in body, mind, and spirit is an arduous trial. Our Lord allows us crosses for our purification. This process is one of both joy and pain. When we unite our sufferings to Jesus on the cross, they become redemptive and all for God’s glory. My chronic health issue has opened my eyes to a new “holy awareness” that I never knew or imagined. The Lord is asking me to totally surrender and TRUST in Him. It is not easy when I am in my debilitating pain but I try and remain faithful. The Lord has shown me that I need to be less concerned with ” doing ” and more concerned with “being”. I have a more contemplative prayer life now and that is the path my suffering has lead me to. I am thankful. I will offer all of your prayer requests today in my prayers and ask God to send you his loving mercy and strength to bear your trials for His glory. If the woman who has the chronic migraines would like to email me, feel free to do so. I am a chronic migraineur and I am willing to share in your journey and offer you encouragement.
