“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function,
so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.”
{Romans 12:4-5, NLT}

Better Together . . .
The best part of baking is the taste-testing along the way. When I’m making chocolate chip cookies, I admit that I enjoy a few chocolate chips while mixing the sugar and butter. Or when I’m frosting a cake, I like to scoop out a tiny spoon of yummy icing.
As a young baker, I once tried all the ingredients. And I quickly discovered that cream of tarter and vanilla extract are not exactly delicious by themselves. But if we leave them out of the recipe, the dessert we’re trying to make won’t come together like it’s supposed to. They’re essential to the process.
Just as each ingredient in a recipe is necessary, every member in Christ’s body also has a special function.
This is why Scripture says we are many parts of one body. God gives each person a unique purpose, and together, we can serve others the way God intended. In this way, we belong to each other. Because we need each other.
Every member in Christ’s body is essential.
Some parts function in visible ways, but the parts that function in invisible ways are just as crucial. We need everyone to come together, to do each part. Because we really are better together.

Denise,
I love the baking analogy…especially as another young baker who’s tasted all the ingredients separately lol. It’s in the coming together that we truly make a difference. Thank you for a wise and beautiful thought to start my Sunday…
Blessings.

This is a great analogy… I understand needing others, coming together to grow in Christ, as this last month I’ve been home-bound unable to drive due to doctor’s orders. It’s a lonely state to be in and I greatly appreciate online devotions and such to keep me somewhat connected.
Blessings, Heather

Dense,
Loved the baking analogy (since I just baked cupcakes, & pumpkin bars). Everyone in the body of Christ needs to fulfill their “job” or use their gifts to keep the body functioning. I can pray, write encouragement cards/letters, that is a necessary and needed job! I am not called to teach, evangelize, or be a missionary-yet there are many things I can do right here!!
Have a blessed week!
