Your unfailing love is better than life itself;
how I praise you!
I will praise you as long as I live,
lifting up my hands to you in prayer.
Psalm 63:3-4 NLT
The Unfailing Love of God
Unfailing. What an adjective! The very definition of unfailing uses words like constant, inexhaustible, infallible, and sure. Those words don’t always describe me or the way I love those around me. My love could probably often be described as exhaustible, fickle, and very conditional. That is human nature. Even our best days, our love pales in comparison with the love of God. That’s the way it should be. We were never meant to love in our own strength. We were always meant to love others with the overflow of His love. In order to love as He loves, we first need to realize how much He really does love us.
The whole of Psalm 63 follows King David into the wilderness while he was on the run from his enemies. I would assume that would be the time I would doubt God’s love the most. But David didn’t. This was one of the times he trusted God’s love for him the most. His circumstances were hard and fearful, but he knew God was trustworthy. He knew God was faithful. He put every ounce of his being into giving God glory and praise despite the fact that his circumstances hadn’t changed.
Somehow David kept a thankful heart.
He had come to know that God’s unfailing love was literally better than life itself. He had tasted and seen of His goodness. He knew it trumped anything this world could ever hope to offer. He knew God’s love was unconditional and unyielding and unwavering.
I need to be reminded of that truth often. People disappoint. Seasons can be hard. Sin rears its ugly head. And yet, the Creator of the universe sees the depths of our hearts and loves us the same.
God’s love for us is not dependent on our faithfulness. It depends on His. He is love.
He sees our sin and offers us forgiveness. He sees our flaws and offers us grace. He sees our doubt and offers us truth. He sees us trapped in a pit and offers us rescue.
I don’t live in this space as easily as I wish I did. I know myself. I know I don’t always treat others well. I know my weaknesses and insecurities and the sin I try so hard to fight. Through it all, God loves me. And He loves you. He pursues us at all costs and to great lengths. His pursuit of us is constant. He fights for us. He loves us that much. He sees past who we are now and sees the potential of who we are called to be.
If we think God views us in a negative light, He doesn’t. I’ve never been more glad to be wrong. He calls us . . .
Chosen.
Holy.
Beloved.
I pray that we will learn to find our identity in the One who is faithful, rest in His unfailing love, and live out of the overflow into the lives of the broken world around us.
Do you view yourself as chosen, holy, and beloved? Why or why not?

Karina,
Your post this morning is like a balm to our insecure and sinful souls. Even though we are unfaithful…God is NEVER unfaithful, Amen! Even in the mess we make of our lives, He chooses to call us “chosen”, “holy”, and “beloved”. Those are pretty strong and powerful words for the likes of us. I admit I don’t always feel like I am those things – emphasis on the word “feel”. I’ve learned that feelings lie and they lie often. That’s when I need to go to the FACTS of God’s Word wherein He reminds me that He is lovingkindness and I know He cannot deny himself. That’s when I need to choose to listen to the Truth vs. what my feelings or what the enemy would have me believe about myself. Fact over fiction. Thank you for so beautifully reminding me/us of the facts here today. Loved this post!
Blessings,
Bev xx

Michele,
Praying that the enemy would not undermine you with the thought that you are failing others. Truth is, sometimes we can’t be all things to all people, but praying you can be that one daughter of God who is NEVER disappointed.
Blessings sweet friend,

Karina,
A balm of truth, for sure. I am making a decision for my life’s next steps and sometimes fear I will disappoint or offend God, yet I know my heart is surrendered to Him. I choose today “to rest in His unfailing love. ”
Thank you for obediently writing out of the “overflow of Hid love.”
J
Bev @ Walking Well With God says
J,
Just a reminder that you cannot disappoint God. It simply isn’t in His vocabulary. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that we disappoint God. As long as your heart is surrendered to Him, He sees you perfectly through the blood of His Son, Jesus. Nothing can change His point of view….nothing! Praying that you can seek His guidance for the best way to go so that you will be walking in His good and perfect will for you.
Prayers and ((hugs)),
Bev

You ask – Do you view yourself as chosen, holy, and beloved?
I’m so thankful to now be able to answer with a resounding yes.
I struggled in this area for a very long time. I’m so thankful the Spirit of Grace doesn’t give up on us. Instead, His unfailing love pursues us, healing us, convincing us of the righteousness He has secured for us because He loves us so deeply.
Praise Him forever! #emergingwithwings #lovesmanifesto
Karina Allen says
Amen Danielle! Doesn’t it feel so good to be able to know that we know that we are chosen, holy and beloved?! I’m crazy thankful for His pursuit of us.

Karina,
Do I feel chosen, holy & loved? Not always. I know that feelings are fickle. So thankful God’s unfailing love keeps pursuing us daily. He never gives up. Refreshing to hear that His love for me isn’t dependent on my faithfulness, but His. He is always faithful & true never changing. We tend to change with our emotions.
Blessings 🙂

Praying for Beth! May God be completely real to you and overwhelm you with His love and grace. He is near to you and longing to remind you that you chosen, holy and beloved!

She started summer school yesterday and is having a hard time because of unfamiliar surroundings and loneliness. I am praying that I can find the right words to be comfort and a representative of God’s faithfulness in this too. Praying for each of your needs, disclosed or not, T.
