Hospitality. That word can bring with it a whole lot of expectations and anxiety. Inviting people into your home might feel like inviting judgment on your entertaining skills and stress on your already maxed-out schedule. It might feel impossible or overwhelming to make food, clean the house, decorate, and facilitate conversation.
We’ve been there, too.
But what if you had a friend who was an expert at opening her door? What if she came alongside you to share simple ways to overcome those obstacles and help you lean into the gift of opening your door? What if the how-to’s of hosting people in your home didn’t have to get in the way of the get-to of welcoming people into your heart and pointing them to Christ?
And what if we could learn all of this together?
We’d love to invite you to join us as we kick off a book club featuring our new book — Just Open the Door: How One Invitation Can Change a Generation, by Jen Schmidt!
Grab your neighbors and girlfriends, or get a quiet moment by yourself, and tune in to listen to Jen and a few of her friends chat their way through the themes of Just Open the Door.
Starting April 30th, we’ll share a Facebook Live video at 9 p.m. ET (8 p.m. CT/7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT) every Monday in our very own private Facebook group. Not on Facebook? Not to worry! We’ll email you the videos every week during the book club.
Here’s a schedule of Jen’s friends who will be joining us as we unpack the book:
- April 30th – Crystal Paine
- May 7th – Karen Ehman
- May 14th – Melissa Michaels
- May 21st – Ruth Chou Simons
We can’t wait for you to meet them! These are dear friends of Jen and some of our favorite writers and speakers. They live out biblical hospitality in their own lives, and we can’t wait to learn all their secrets!
Whether you’re a seasoned host looking for renewed inspiration or a nervous newbie not sure where to begin, Jen and her friends will give you their best practical ideas that are easy for anyone to implement! You’ll come away with tools for simple food prep, cleaning made easy, creating a welcoming ambiance with what you already have, and guiding meaningful conversations without a ton of stress.
It’s completely free to join this book club, but we need you to sign up so we can add you to our private Facebook group where we’ll share those weekly videos and other encouragement (and you need to sign up if you’re not on Facebook too, so we can email the videos to you). We can’t wait to get comfy and get real about hospitality — together!
Jen,
Have started reading your book and am thinking of doing a neighborhood study as there are a lot of new faces in our neighborhood….now to just find those extra hours in the day to do this…..it’s been awhile since I’ve led/hosted a study, but your book may be calling me to get “back in the saddle” again….
Blessings,
Bev xx
Bev,
If I was in your neighborhood I’d gladly join you….
Have a blessed day,
Penny
Thanks Penny…I’d love to have your company!!
((Hugs)),
Bev xx
Bev,
You will make a great neighborhood book club hostess! Your neighbor’s are so blessed to have you in their neighborhood. Put on the coffee pot and open that door girl! You will be blessed. Wish I lived in your neighborhood. Kathy
Kathy,
Wished you lived closer, sweet friend, that we could do this together!!
Bev xoxo
Ladies,
Thank-you for the warm, and welcoming invitation, I’m sorry I’l have to decline (No Facebook).
Blessings to all,
Penny
Penny, go ahead and sign up if you still want to join – we’ll email you the videos each week!
Same here, Penny ~ No Facebook, so I can’t join either. 🙁
It does make me feel sad that so many things are only done on Facebook. There really are more than just a few of us that don’t use it…
In His grace, K
K, we hope you’ll still sign up to join if you’re interested in the book club. We’ll be emailing you the video content each week!
I agree, I have face book and I will tune on to it for this but I wish there was another alternative. I really need help learning hospitality so this is my exception.
Hi Gina,
We sure hope you’ll sign up! If you don’t want to sign into your FB, no worries – we’ll email you the videos each week 🙂
This sounds delightful but I’m not on Facebook either but you ladies have a delightful time!
Nancy, go ahead and sign up – we’ll be emailing you the videos each week so no absolute need for FB!
Great! Thank you once more!!
Jen,
Congratulations on the book. People need to learn hospitality again. Back in the days people sat on front porches & neighbors came by sat down & talked a while. Now we are all to busy. Text, email, or quick calls are all we seem to have time for. Time to slow down & invite people over. Get to know your neighbors.
Blessings 🙂
I do not do Facebook either. Sad that I cannot join in. Enjoy the open door though.
Just joined! Yay. I’d planned to save this book for summer, but I shall read it along with you sweet ladies instead. It really feels like a timely book for me, so I’m looking forward to it. 🙂 ♥
