‘Tis the season of giving thanks. Many of us are thankful these days, reveling in the autumnal glory and start of the holiday season. But many of us may be struggling to give thanks for a myriad of reasons.

Whether this is a sweet season of gratitude or a season of sadness, we stand with you.

Even as we either rejoice alongside you or sit beside you in your pain, we want to encourage you to live as a woman of courage — no matter where your heart is. God calls us to a life of thanksgiving, even when it’s hard, even when we don’t feel like it, even when we’re in dark and difficult places.

Sister, we want you to know that you aren’t alone. And whether or not giving thanks may be difficult, we can do it together.

Let’s make this season brighter by spending 21 days reflecting on gratitude. 21 days of spending time with Jesus, soaking in the truth of Scripture, and reading God’s heart for you, His daughter.

The first verse on gratitude that I learned was from a Salty the Singing Songbook tape when I was little…Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. He never changes, He stays the same.

It’s sounds very cheery to request our favorite Bible verses about gratitude! I’m finding them to mostly be commanding me to be thankful, and even though I know it’s for my own good, that isn’t necessarily easy or cheery. Praying today for those of you that have to force your gratitude out through gritted teeth because you are straining to keep from falling down the side of a steep cliff.

Psalm 116:2. Because He bends down to listen I will pray as long as I have breath. Praying at all times in all places is a practice I have adopted for my life’s journey.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:6-7

I love this verse because it brings me such peace in times of chaos. I love that God’s peace transcends ALL earthly understanding. We don’t have to understand to receive. I am so thankful for His love.

Thank you so much, Joyce, for sharing this loving scripture!! I’m personalizing it for my prayer time and for praying 24 hours a day, to:
“Because You bend down to listen, I will pray as long as You give me breath.”
My Mom’s name is Joyce. She passed away the day after Thanksgiving last year. She was a beautiful, spiritual woman who literally gave love and inspiration to everyone around her. My middle name is Joy, after her.
A friend whose name is Joyce said she thinks women named Joyce or Joy tend to spread more love and rejoice at life! Thank you, Joyce! I’m very grateful for the joy you brought me today!

“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” ~Psalm 9:1.
I love that this scripture talks about thanking Him with my WHOLE heart. No part of me holding back. No part being disgruntled with Him or the plans He put in place for my life. I live the last part, TELLING all of His wonderful deeds. Thank you Lord!

    (in)courage,
So many favorites, but I particularly like 1 Chronicles 16:34: Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His steadfast love endures forever.
Even when life is not going well, this reminds me of God’s innate character: He is good. It also reminds me that He is steadfast and nothing will ever separate me from His awesome love. I signed up for the reading plan…thank you!
    Blessings
    Bev xx

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
    ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭ESV
Being grateful in all circumstances isn’t easy, but it’s what we are called to do. I find the more I’m focused on gratitude, I’m able to see so many ways God is at work in my life.

Looking through a reading plan I found this verse from Psalm 28 verse 7:
    The Lord strengthens and protects me;
I trust in him with all my heart.
    I am rescued and my heart is full of joy;
I will sing to him in gratitude. (NET)

Daily gratitude helps me to be kinder to those who struggle throughout the day. It reminds me that I don’t always know someone else’s struggle and I should not judge.

There are so many good grattitude verses but I think my favorite is I Thessalonians5:18 give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. It reminds us we should be grateful no matter what season of life we are in and tells us that is God’s will pretty important stuff!!

  6. Sue says

    Psalm 100:5
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

    So reassuring, comforting!!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

I love this verse. It’s simple instructions to live every day according to God’s word. Once we follow His way we find gratitude in the every day and that allows us to shine His love even more!!!

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His love endures forever! 1 Chronicles 16:34

God is SO good and faithful, even when we are not. I am so very thankful for all His guidance and provision and strength in this difficult season of life. He is my Rock and my fortress, my good Shepherd.

  10. Mandy says

    October 30, 2019 at 6:30 am

Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.
When we operate from a level of gratitude, from the very moment we open our eyes, it changes you and the lives of everyone around you.

  11. Amy says

    October 30, 2019 at 6:30 am

All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 4:15
His abundant love towards us stirs up a return of thanks that spills over – for our good and His glory!

  12. Carolyn Haney says

    October 30, 2019 at 6:38 am

Psalm 59:16-17 would be my choice of favorites. David was being hunted by Saul. His life was on the line. That is so much deeper the problems that I face. And David said, “I will sing of Your strength … I will sing aloud of Your steadfast love … I will sing praises.” What a reminder to me that God is Sovereign and is my fortress in the day of trouble.

  13. Michele says

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” This verse reminds me to give thanks even on hard days and in hard seasons. It is so easy to give thanks when all is going well. When the going gets tough, the tough give thanks for something – and then they get going.

  14. Margaret Michael says

    October 30, 2019 at 6:41 am

Psalms 100:4. “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”
Gratitude is something we should do everyday, not just one day a year.

  15. Sheree Poole says

    October 30, 2019 at 6:41 am

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. Psalm 95:1-2. I love this verse because even in the midst of trials and tribulations, we can remain joyful, because He is our Rock of our salvation. This is a great reminder to me to always be thankful for the blessings He has rained on my life. Struggles come and struggles go but His joy remains in my heart forever.

  16. Patty Amundson says

One of my favorite verses is Numbers 6:24-26. “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” If He can do that for me, then surely I can offer that to someone else.

  17. Carol says

    October 30, 2019 at 6:51 am

One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 40:29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. This is one of my every day prayers for myself and my two sisters.

  18. Adrienne Anyanwu says

    1 Thessalonians: 5:18
Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you
This scripture affirms for me that God is worthy of my devotion no matter my burden

  19. Kerry says

    October 30, 2019 at 6:59 am

Psalm 28:7: The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

The devil uses hurts, pains and difficulties as on-ramps to heisting my joy. This verse reminds me to find joy in even the smallest of circumstances to shield me from being a victim of one of Satan’s drive-bys. By focusing squarely on God, I am able to firmly hold on to my joy and in doing so He helps me put up a virtual “road closed” sign for the thief!

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
    – Philippians 4:6

My reason: Because i have been in a season of waiting and hardships but i am reminded to thank Him in this time regardless!

  21. Tara says

    October 30, 2019 at 7:14 am

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:4-7

Rejoice, thanksgiving, peace, safety in the Savior. All words that bring comfort and healing to my soul. It also happens to be my hubby’s favorite Bible passage too. It’s a reminder that no matter what when we are abiding in Jesus we will rejoice, find something to be grateful for and have true lasting peace. It won’t always be easy but it will always possible. Because Jesus.

  22. Pamela says

    October 30, 2019 at 7:17 am

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful,” Col. 4:2 is a favorite. I like the fact that when we are watchful, we have so much to be thankful for. It reminds me to be on watch for all the ways God blesses me.

  23. Jenna says

    October 30, 2019 at 7:20 am

My favorite verse of gratitude is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. I refer to these verses as a “Spiritual To-Do List”. “V 16. Rejoice always, v17. pray constantly, v18. give thanks in everything.” We always have something to be thankful for!

  24. Indiane says

    October 30, 2019 at 7:20 am

I like a LOT of gratitude scriptures but Philippians 4:6 is a favorite (and I love the entire 4th chapter):

    Don’t worry about anything
    Instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and
Thank Him for all he has done.
    NLT

Sometimes I have to remind myself if I’m worrying over something too much then I’m not praying enough! This verse also helps me keep
Peace in my heart and gratitude in my soul. I would be truly lost without my Heavenly Father.

  30. Esther says

    October 30, 2019 at 7:48 am

I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. (Psalms 31:7-8) During one of the scariest times of my life I also saw the miracle working power of Jesus. I didn’t know how or when but I held steadfast to this scripture and spoke His promise aloud each day. Friends He is faithful, my family and I our feet rest in a spacious place where we could have easily been homeless, He delivered us to safety. Don’t get carried away with the planning and the details, He knows best. This holiday season I am grateful for His faithfulness.

Ephesians 5:20 says, “giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” and that challenges me to be thankful for even the really hard things. The things I would rather not have happen in my life. The unkind words said in anger to me. The friend who betrays me. The boss who overlooks me. The cancer. The ways God is growing me to be more like His Son – even if they aren’t my favorite. I fail more than I get it right, but I am even trying to be grateful for that. All for His glory. And only because of Him.

“I will give thanks to the Lord with my Whole Heart” Psalm 9:1

To be grateful in all circumstances is to genuinely do this with your WHOLE heart and entire being. To meditate and put that energy with intent in prayer to the Lord for He is good. Our God is an awesome God and what we can give to him in turn is our Heart. Nothing but the best for Him. Amen.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

These verses were an easy pick. I suffer from anxiety on the daily and suffer from PTSD, depression and Bipolar disorder due to my military career. It is tough to abide by these verses, but I do know that God is with me always no matter what I am going through and I am truly thankful for that. He grabbed me out of a blackhole twice in my life and saved me from death. How can I not love a God like that. Thank you all for what you do. He is my protector always and my breastplate to guard my heart. God Bless Kimberly

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” (I Thess 5:18)

Years ago, I cross-stitched and framed this verse, and it sits on a shelf in my living room where I see it several times a day. This frequent reminder to remember my blessings and express gratitude keeps me looking to God and aware of his unceasing love and care, no matter the temporal circumstances of my day.

My favorite Bible verses about gratitude are 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. It’s not always easy, but I strive to always look for at least one thing to be thankful for in every situation/station of life I find myself in. There have been times in my life that have felt so dark and lonely and overwhelming. It’s during these times that I struggle with believing that God is still hearing and seeing me. In my brain, I know He is; it’s my heart that doesn’t feel it. It’s then that I have to make an intentional effort to remember specific times God has been so obviously faithful. He has been faithful to me. He has been faithful to people I love. He has been faithful to people throughout Scripture. Psalm 77:11-12 reminds me to think about these times –

“I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

    with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
We need to be more joyful in worship services. Some services are very somber & you wonder about the people there. I know each one worships his own way. 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Col 3:15-17

Verse 15 plants the concept of thankfulness (“be thankful”); verse 16 describes how we should worship and sing (“with thankfulness in your hearts to God”). The grand finale, however, is verse 17, which leaves no doubt of how we should react to God’s grace, love and mercy: “do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Mediating upon these verses has given me a greater understanding of the greatness of God, the enormity of who He is and what is His due. Upon unpleasant reflection, my was nature and a poor reflection of His Spirit dwelling within. So, day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, I cling to to the act of gratitude and living in thankfulness. Amazing how those hiccups in life seem so minor now, and how much better prepared I am to deal with the big storms – all because of allowing gratitude to thrive!

    Psalm 28:7
The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. (ESV) A wonderful example of how God protects us, strengthens us, and helps us. He is so good and loving that my heart can’t help but to exult him with song! When I’m struggling this is not only a reminder that he is there with me but it’s also a promise that I will he helped and for that reason (and so many others) it encourages me to praise him even in the hard times.

Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Knowing that this is God’s will helps me to give thanks in all (even the hard ones) circumstances.

    II Thessalonians 5:18 NIV
“…give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

We always ask what God’s will is….it is for us to live in gratitude in all circumstances! Not an easy task for any of us without the Spirit’s guidance and help!

    1 Thessalonians 5:18
“give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
This is my life verse. I have lived by it ever since i lost my baby at 5 months pregnant. His will is always better than mine, even if I don’t know exactly what that looks like.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6

“Every good and perfect gift is from above.”
This reminds me that it’s all about Him. It’s easy to forget when things are going well sometimes. Not only are the big things wonderful, but even the little things that are good are worthy of His praise.

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vine, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.
    Habakkuk 3:17-19

Psalm 100 :4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.
This shows us that gratitude and praise are keys for coming into His presence which is an awesome blessing.
