Don’t Jessica and Angie make you smile when they announce a new Bloom (in)courage book selection? If you’re new to Bloom, we’re glad you’ve decided to join us! If you’ve taken part in the past, we’re just as happy for your return.
How ’bout let’s go over a few things to be sure we’re all on the same page. ~ wink ~
What to Expect
Bread & Wine ~ a Love Letter to Life Around the Table is the perfect choice for our Bloom (in)courage Summer study. You already know Angie and Jessica are back, and they will be joined on the sofa by author Shauna Niequist. They’ll dish each week about gathering together the people you love and celebrating life round the table. Robin (that’s me :)) is back, too, writing post content, chatting in comments and hanging out on Facebook and Twitter..
You can expect regular videos and post content to loosely follow the chapters; since they aren’t numbered, you can figure out where we are in the study by checking the schedule below.
Because Bread & Wine is such a special book, we’ve cooked up something extra special for you: cooking videos! Over the course of our Book Club we’ll feature four recipes from Bread & Wine. We can’t wait to reveal what they are each week (any guesses?).
I mean, just watch the trailer below and we dare you not to drool in anticipation:
If you happen to miss a day, no worries. The content will always be available here on the Bloom page, so feel free to watch videos and read the posts anytime. Jump into comments, too–we think this study is really going to have you talking! Take a minute to subscribe to Bloom (in)courage emails and you’ll never miss an update. Also, you’re invited to join us on our Bloom Facebook Page to interact with other readers–plenty of ways to connect!
Annnd…one more thing to make our Bloom (in)courage summer selection even more fun: Featured guest posts from YOU!
Call for Guest Post Submissions
If you have already read Bread & Wine and the topic of food and community spoke to you, please share your story! We are accepting guest submissions along this general theme so there are plenty of angles for you to write about it. This isn’t a review of the book, rather your “love letter to life around the table.”
Please email incourage@dayspring.com to submit your Guest Post; add “Bread & Wine Guest Post” in the Subject line and attach your content as a word doc. Submission deadline is Friday, June 14th (revised). If you aren’t able to write a post by that date, we’ll include a link-up with each Guest Post for you to share your story there.
Buy a Book, Give a Book — and Get Free Shipping!
Right now on DaySpring.com, you can purchase a copy of Bread & Wine for $9.99 (almost 1/2 price)!
We try our best to make it possible for everyone to participate in the Bloom study by negotiating with publishers to offer the book at a reduced cost. If your financial situation is stressed and you are unable to purchase a book, you can request a free copy this Wednesday through Friday. We ask that you only request a copy if you truly can’t afford the book and are willing to participate in the study. We have a limited amount to give away and that will depend on how many sponsored books are purchased.
This is where we could use your help. If you are able to purchase a book for someone in need, DaySpring has set up a “Sponsored Book” option for you. Wanna know just how much this means to those who receive sponsored copies? Read it in their own words–your generosity makes such a difference!
And when you purchase a copy for yourself as well as a Sponsored Book you can receive free shipping with code BLOOMBOOK. This code is valid on any two book purchase, so it will work if you’d like to purchase two books for yourself or two sponsored books. DaySpring will take care of delivering the sponsored book to a reader in need.
We are thankful for DaySpring and Zondervan for providing a limited number of copies of Bread & Wine for those requesting a free copy. We are also SO thankful for each of you– for stepping in and caring for your fellow Bloom sisters by purchasing a sponsored copy. This need would not be met without you!
If you have any questions about the sponsored program, you can visit the FAQ page found here.

Can you tell how excited ALL of us are?? Bread & Wine is such a lovely call to community, the heart of who (in)courage is. Sounds like you’re already a Shauna Niequist fangirl so I’ll be curious to hear how you’d compare it to the others (though it’s a different type of book). And THANK YOU for sharing!! 🙂

I’m a bit confused. The date for requesting a free book is June 5 per the schedule above, but when I tried to figure out how to sign up, it says the form to fill out will be available Aug. 15 on Bloom. How can we request a free book if the form on June 5 if the form isn’t available until Aug. 15? Just curious – I would really like to read this with the group and recent life circumstances prevent me from purchasing the book at this time.
Thanks!
Robin Dance says
Well, Jennifer……that would be because I forgot to update the FAQs page (forgive me??). All the links, dates and information should be current now, but if you see something that sounds odd, don’t hesitate to let me know. THANK YOU for alerting me to the issue so early!!

When I read the NT, I see Jesus gathered up to a table quite a bit with his crew. I am excited about digging into this book. I haven’t read any of Shauna’s other books yet, so this will be fun. 🙂
Robin Dance says
Lyli,
Based on what I’ve learned about you during our last study, I’m SURE you’re going to enjoy this!! 🙂
Sarah says
I love LOVE this book. I’m almost done with it, but will definitely be following the book club this summer and encouraging my friends to get in on this too! My heart’s desire is to have real life community with women around the dinner table…even though I can’t cook a darn thing!
Robin Dance says
Ooooo, Sarah–
You’re going to make a few of these recipes, right? Which one(s) were your favorite on paper? DO tell me you’re going to finish this study by learning how to cook a few darn things…and, growing closer to Jesus while celebrating friendship.
Win win win win WIN!!

This is a book not to miss!!! I love Shauna’s honesty and her ability to capture thoughts and ideas that lay beneath the surface. Ones that I can’t find on my own. You should simply find a quiet place and savor the moments you get to have inside these pages, inside her heart and soul. Enjoy!
Robin Dance says
Cathy,
Your enthusiasm is a sweet blessing; and you’ve described Shauna perfectly! What a lovely endorsement.
audree says
hooray!!! got to hear Shauna in Hawaii just before the book released and when it did, my sister and i both picked it up and have been reading it together (as well as laughing and crying together, you know how it is)! now, i’m super excited that i get to join in watching the Bloom videos…i’ll tell my sister, too! this is going to be so awesome!!!
Robin Dance says
Audree,
What a fun idea; I haven’t mentioned doing that with my sister, but now you’ve got me thinking. Do you live in Hawaii??? Can I visit, please???
(just kidding. But it IS a dream destination.)
Megan says
So I have to confess… Even though my copy of this book only arrived this morning… I’ve already read the introduction twice. And I am so so excited to read the rest of it. I’m really exercising some self control and trying not to devour the book in one sitting… Partially because I am excited to interact with the community here as we discover the book together, and partially because I simply don’t want the book to be finished!
Robin Dance says
Megan,
Ha!! I think you’ll find Your People in this crowd. There’s a fine line between wanting to read more and savoring each chapter, isn’t there? In my case, I’ll end up reading it at least twice (some chapters more), and I would LOVE to think that meant I could remember the recipes! I’m not great at winging it in the kitchen and Shauna is such a natural with that; and somehow, she keeps encouraging the reader just to TRY. Not a call to perfection but practice :).
SaraG says
Jess and Angie always make the book at hand so exciting. I am so looking forward to reading the book with everyone else and maybe making some friends along the way. The premise intrigues me. I have always loved how Jesus broke bread with his friends and have always imagined what great times they must have had together.
Count me in!
Sara
Robin Dance says
FANtastic, SaraG :), we’re so glad you’ll be hanging out with us this go ’round. And yes, Jessica and Angie bring each book to life. This one should be dynamite!!

I can not wait! I purchased this book a few months ago with the anticipation of reading it soon and then I come across this site and this book club. God knows exactly what he is doing and I love it. I do love to cook AND read do this sounds like a match made in heaven. I am looking forward to diving into both the book and her recipes. It would be nice to see pics of people making things in the kitchen from the book. Thank you all (who run InCourage) for opening your hearts and sharing with others the gifts that God has given you. Blessings and looking forward to this journey.

Started reading this book this afternoon and couldn’t put it down! Can’t wait for the study to begin! Btw, how are the chapters/parts 1-4 divided into these study “sessions”? Not sure how far to read or if I should read it ALL ahead of time! Believe me, I probably will anyway 🙂

I love Shauna! I’m coming at this a bit late. I actually just wrote a post about this today on my blog before I realized anyone was doing anything like this. I hope to contribute or link-up or just come by and join in in some way. Her writing hits my soul where it needs it every single time. Thanks for doing this!
Joy says
As a recovering alcoholic, I just want to check that the name if the book doesn’t imply what is in the book… Stories of drinking wine while eating food? I just need to know before I buy the book. Thanks for your help!!! Blessings.
Robin Dance says
Joy, I’m a little hesitant to advise you because I haven’t walked in your shoes and I don’t want to be a stumbling block. I talked to Shauna about the alcohol issue; she’s from Chicago and I’m from the buckle of the Bible belt. If you could have heard her speak in response, I think you would be okay reading the book–she was like “If ANYONE was in my home who had an issue with drinking, I wouldn’t consider offering wine! I’d totally respect their circumstance and accommodate them in any way.” That’s my paraphrase but her point was she would NEVER want anyone to be uncomfortable in her home. It’s not about wine or bubbly, it’s about connecting over food, finding a way toward each other. The book mentions occasions of when wine was present at a meal or how Shauna has enjoyed it as part of a meal with friends, but the book is not a celebration of drinking or revelry and certainly not excess.
Ugh…I hope I’ve answered your question. Maybe it would be best to check it out of your library or thumb thru it at your local bookstore before purchase. (Thank you for asking.)

I am just starting. Is there a way for me to get to Part 1? I see Part 2 through part 4.
Robin Dance says
Hi Janet,
THANK YOU for alerting me to this issue! Apparently we have a few glitches with our transition from the old design to the new; and comments like yours help us go back and figure it all out. I’m SO thrilled you’re interested in following the archives. Our tech staff is looking into this and we should have it sorted out in the next few days :).
