We three sat sipping icy cold
through straws in sweaty glasses
trickling droplets to our laps
and the humidity rose.
She gestured and laughed;
I leaned in to ask
we sat back to listen –
words like music spilling into space.
Wind stood still
and watched us.
Forks hovered over plates
as we spilled out
like honey running easy in the sun.
Summer hummed around us
Heaven opened up
and blue skies
caught my soul
to glimpse
the Sacred Three
hovering over
water’s face
when Word spilled into
space and time with perfect pitch.
What’s a moment in your life when you feel heaven and earth collide, divine connection in everyday community?

This is beautiful in its simplicity and purity, Deidra. I felt Him, too, that day, sitting on the porch, laughing and sipping with us three.
And I am feeling Him now, even in the midst of sorrow. I wrote about just that today…joy and tears, bittersweet.
Thank you, Dee, for this ray of sunshine and this sweet memory today!

Your post today took my breath away. It was so beautiful. What a gift it is to be able to feel Him even in our sadness.

I feel Him in the quiet morning before my children wake
in the soft sound of my husband breathing as he sleeps.
I feel Him as the early rays of dawn peek about the horizon
in the crazy screaming of my children as we get ready in the morning.
He is here all around especially as we read His word, memorize His word, meditate on His word.

You describe treasured moment here. These everyday moments where we catch glimpses of God, right there in the midst. Isn’t it a joy when heaven and earth overlap like that and we can see straight through the fog to behold the glory – even in the craziness of ordinary life?

There is something about sharing food, maybe wine, with dear friends–brothers and sisters in Christ–that foreshadows heaven. About a year ago, my husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary with our best man and his wife, faithful friends who have walked with us along the way. The food, the wine, the laughter, the scent of the evening air seemed infused with blessing, with grace. I can’t put it in a beautiful poem like you did, but I join you in hallelujah for the kinds of moments you describe.

Oh, Nancy! I think that you are so right! The breaking of bread together is such a holy experience. I think about that part in the Bible, when Jesus hung out a bit before His ascension into heaven. That part where He broke the bread and the disciples’ eyes were opened and they realized who they’d been sitting with. What an amazing experience that must have been! Yes. Hallelujah for those moments!
And hallelujah for 25 years of marriage!

This is beautiful. You have such a way with words!! I see God in nature. The surrounding mountains, trees, animals. It’s nice living out in the country away from the hustle & bustle of the big city.

This world is a beautiful place. I live in the midwest where the sky is always before me. It constantly shouts at me to “look up!” And I find myself amazed at the sweeping clouds and technicolor sunsets and dark storm clouds that march across the sky. All singing praises to God.

I believe that you can feel it, the gathering together, like it’s tangible enough to touch. I’m so very glad that you are touching so many lives and making new friends through blogging. I had the joy of being able to sit across the table from you and believe me, I wish you lived close by…we’d do it again!

God is all about relationships. I believe that. And I believe that when we get together, God shares a bit of that wisdom with us. I agree…I wish we lived near each other so that we could soak up some of that wisdom on a regular basis.

Great times in fellowship, moments to treasure. Sometimes I think all of our living and striving comes to this — focuses on the work we do at points of intersection where we influence one another.

“…all of our living and striving… ” It’s about the people, isn’t it? When it comes right down to it, it’s about relationships and catching glimpses of God along the journey.

When my whole family is together. I knew it would be weird when my son went to college. But really! It’s like PERFECT when he’s home and everyone is sleeping in their own beds!
It feels sooooo sweet!
Thank you God for my family! I’m rich in blessings!

As a mom now living in an empty nest, I have to agree. That is such a good feeling! I adore my empty nest but I also love the moments (summer vacation, Thanksgiving) when everyone is snoring away on their pillows…right where they’re supposed to be.

Oh Deidra – such beauty that day and in the words you crafted to share it. Kindred spirits truly. You two inspired me greatly that day. And it must happen again soon.

When I was a little girl, I kept a treasure box in a secret spot near our home. I’d ride my bike there and place my special keepsakes in that box. If I could, I’d ride my bike back to that spot and place the day we shared lunch together carefully inside. You are a treasure!

Yeah, so I will just be turning that one over and over and over… Beautiful.

I think the fact that Jesus is the Word become flesh is one of the most fascinating gifts in the world. That same Word that spoke the whole world into existence, speaks to my heart and my soul…and invites us to join in the song. Kelly, Jesus uses your words to sing to me.

Absolutely beautiful Deidra. Thank you for sharing a moment with Him. I feel Him in the quiet of morning, the colors of a soft sunset, the cries of honest delight from my five year old, a friend’s hug. His Grace is so amazing and takes my breath away.
