  1. This last weekend…we took our first overnight trip with our son & daughter, ages 6 & 3. They *loved* the hotel room, as well as getting to share a bed, and therefore took them awhile to settle down to sleep. Long story short, once they did finally get still and fall asleep, they were so stinkin’ cute facing each other in the bed with their Pillow Pets. Classic photo moment but wouldn’t ya know it our camera battery was dead and no flash on my phone! But the picture is burned in my memory. And it did give my husband and me time to just sit in the other bed and talk quietly (about iPhone apps and FB posts- HA!)and eat our secret dessert we snuck out from dinner & stashed until the kiddos were conked! AAHHHH…..

  2. Earlier today I was cleaning out my extremely messy office/storage/catch-all room… I had filled a corner of our kitchen with unused baby items and a few other things that I needed my husband to haul up to the attic. I was dillegiently organizing and cleaning when I realized my almost 2 year old was being very quiet. Normally this is NOT a good thing! As I peeked around the corner into the kitchen I saw my sweet girl amongst the attic pile sitting in her infant car seat – head sticking past the top of the seat, legs dangling past the bottom. She was contently singing and talking to herself. I couldn’t help but think about how fast these 2 years have gone. She used to be tiny enough for that seat, but now can barely fit. Quiet moments like those remind me to cherish every second with my baby. They grow too fast not to.

  3. yesterday, my sisters and i took a drive with my niece and nephew to hale’iwa (i live on oahu) and as we were all in our own world even though the music was on and the windows were down letting all the wind make so much noise, it was my first relaxing quiet moment in a long time. i felt like it was just me and Jesus.

  4. The last quiet moment that I remember was when I was alone with my friends at a very lovely beach. It was not the peak season for visitors, and it so it felt like we rented out the beach just for ourselves. It was very early in the morning, and we just found ourselves picking up sea shells along the shore. We weren’t talking at all, or rather, only our hearts had been talking. We were sharing the sweetness of that quiet morning, as though it were something sacred, a gift from heaven itself. All we could hear were the waves crashing upon the shore, washing away all our worries, and replacing them with gratitude and peace. 😉

  5. My last really quiet moment was when I was driving 5 hours from home into the mountains of Kentucky for a funeral. The mountains are so beautiful and the daffodils and some trees and bushes were blooming out. I would crest a mountain and have a great view and couldn’t help but thank God for his wonderful creation! It gave me time to pray and just talk out to God.

  6. my last quiet moment was when my son very quietly removed his clothes, crept with a sneaky smile to the corner and stood there acting like he was going to pee…then it became a loud moment as I shouted…where do we go potty?! Were you really going to pee there?! Yes he said as he trotted to the bathroom.

  7. My last quiet moment was up for middle night feedings with this precious 3week old baby number7. with 6 boys and 1. 20 month old princess, I think I’d really be blessed to journey with you through this book. Thanks & love, darci

  8. Every morning from 5 -6:30 a.m. I have my quiet moments. I make it a priority to wake early every morning because it’s the only time I can guarantee I’ll have any quiet at all. If, by some chance, I have a quiet moment throughout the rest of the day, I consider it a precious gift!

  9. Yesterday I found our 2 year old sitting quietly on the couch pouring over a photo book of our trip to Colorado from last summer. She was turning pages carefully and didn’t miss a single picture or page. I thought for sure she was squeezing all the toothpaste out of the tube or unrolling all the TP.

  10. Seriously, 13 years ago when the second of 4 boys came. They are ages 18, 13, 10 & 8 and I haven’t had a moments peace yet. I would LOVE to read this book to know that I’m NOT alone in a crazy world of being being Mom, Taxi driver,Nurse, Cook, Maid, Bookkeeper, Teacher, Coach. I would just love it one day if they each could use one cup to drink from and not 20. Oh yes, and my all time request, If you took something out, put it back WHERE IT GOES, not necessarily where you found it.

Don’t get me wrong I LOVE my job. The rewards are SO worth it.

  11. My last quiet moment was beautiful; feeding my 7 week old precious baby at 2:00 AM. Love it. <3.

  12. My ‘only’ quiet moment, it seems, is from 7:45 AM (when my three oldest go to school) to about 30-45 minutes later (when my two toddlers awake.) Then it’s full speed ahead!

  13. HMMM the last quiet moment must have been last night when all 4 kids were in bed sound asleep!

  14. I don’t handle quiet lightly either so I would have done the same thing. I get to work from home on Mondays and Fridays so those are my little moments of refuge. Although, my husband is there also so it’s not 100% quiet. 🙂

  15. Right now! I am reading this while my 4 girls play (relevantly nicely) in the next room.

  16. My little guy was playing with his trains quietly at his train table in his room. I was so worried that he was getting into something but so proud when I found him playing on his own.

  17. This weekend I returned before my family from a church function and was in my home by myself. This does not happen very often since we homeschool. A little quiet is a welcome friend.

  18. Oh how I crave that quiet sometimes!! 🙂 with the weather being nicer I took my bible outside the other day and just read for awhile. That was heavenly. 🙂 my kids were outside playing but they miraculously didn’t fight or need me for a few moments. Bliss.

  19. Last quiet moment: holding the 2-year-old while the 4-year-old was coloring in her book. Love being a mommy!

  20. I have but a few quiet moments in the bath each night. It is my time after the kids go to bed to just relax for just a few minutes. But is rejunivating!

  21. Hmm, the last quiet moment i really had was 2 days ago, when the kids were all in bed and I sat down to write for a few minutes. I try hard to build quiet moments into each day, but as a homeschooling mother of 4, that obviously doesn’t always happen! 😉 I am getting away this weekend with a girlfriend though and i am already so antsy for those quiet moments!!! So excited about your book!!

  22. In the carpool line everyday my youngest 2 daughters like to listen to books on tape (iPod) while we wait to get their big sister. They are quiet and almost angelic. It’s heavenly.

  23. Oops I just left a comment and forgot my name 🙂 I wrote about my girls in the carpool line !! Need more coffee 😉

  24. Last Friday was beautiful. It was sunny and 75 degrees outside. I was inside getting ready for the Sabbath Day. Hurrying through my chores, rushing around when the happy sound of my children playing floated in on the breeze through my open doors. I just stood there and listened. Listened to the squealing and laughter and our dog joining in with her happy bark. It wasn’t really a “quiet” moment but it was a moment that restored my soul. 🙂

  25. I was grateful to my husband for taking the kids out on Sunday afternoon for a couple of hours. Although, it’s an initial moment of panic, not quite knowing what to do when I’m alone (it’s such a foreign feeling…) I did a little bit of laundry, picked up around the house and grabbed a book and spent some time reading.

  26. I took time last night after the kids went to bed to sit and write. Pouring my heart out in words (or reading someone else’s) is something that fills my soul. I’d love to read your book!

  27. Hmmm quiet moment…well does waking up at 3AM to a thunderstorm that of course stopped soon after but I couldn’t fall back asleep count as a quiet moment???

  28. I recently hid behind between my bed and the wall in order to find a moment of peace and quiet. It was kind of funny and spur of the moment, but oh so nice! 😀

  29. My groggy eyes show my last quiet moments. One of the quiet moments yesterday was getting to work in Spring weather in the yard.

  30. My last quiet moment was the time between when my husband and daughter rushed out the door this morning and before my 4 yr old got up! It’s a quick minute sometimes, but I’ll take it 🙂 Your story made me giggle this morning and say…oh so true!!! God Bless.

  31. My last quiet moment was last weekend. I was waiting on my sister and her friends to arrive at our hotel for her “bachelorette” weekend. I checked into the hotel room first, unloaded, sat down, and was alone for probably all of 15 minutes. I didn’t know what to do with myself!

  32. I enjoy my times in the evening when I can sit down and get caught up on reading a really good book!

  33. My quiet time is drinking my green tea early in the morning before the kids wake up.

  34. My last quiet time was right now when I read this encouraging message. Thanks so much for brighting my mourning!!!!

  35. My last quiet moment was last night when my 13 year old daughter and I were laying in bed reading. She was reading her book and I was reading on my kindle! Boy, times have changed but I am so glad she still likes to spend quiet time before bed reading with her mom.

  36. One of my favorite quiet moments came when I went to check on my two children, who were a little too quiet for my peace of mind. They are 4 and 6, so to not hear loud banging noises or bickering of sort over a toy or which movie to watch is rare. I found them having a tea party together on the floor of our living room, lost in their own little world of make believe, having the most delightful conversation about ponies, butterflies and how much sugar they wanted in their tea cups. It was such a sweet moment- one where I stood back watching them play, trying to take a mental picture of everything as it was so I wouldn’t forget. Almost so someday, when they’re grown, I have a memory to take out and replay of how much they love each other and how much a quiet tea party meant to a stressed out Mom 🙂

  37. on a business trip for work! (I got so caught up in my book, I stayed up waaaay too late. Hadn’t done that since before getting married!)

  38. I’ve raised 12 children (still in the process – youngest is 11) and I can truthfully say that there weren’t very many quiet moments over the past 35 years. The house is getting quieter now, because my three youngest are BIG, and I do appreciate the chance to think and breathe. But our peaceful environment is punctuated by noisy confusion on a regular basis, when hoards of my 19 grandchildren come for a visit. They play like mad with their uncle (my youngest) and it’s often noisy and hectic.

Just last week, three three-year-olds and a nearly two-year-old were tearing through the library into the kitchen, around the island, and back to the great room. There were monsters and lots of screaming going on (the 2 year old was the monster, I’m afraid) and I could feel my blood pressure rising.

Finally I yelled, “That’s ENOUGH!” (yes, Grannies yell from time to time.)

    And there was blessed quiet.

    For about 3.5 seconds. 😀

  39. My last quiet moment was reading on my bed (1000 gifts) and playing with my cat. My husband was in the other room watching basketball (March Madness!!).

  40. Living in Cairo Egypt can be far from the quiet zone at times. Heading back home to the Scottish Outer Hebrides (homeland) is just what the doctor ordered. We try to spend the summer there, far from the dust, noise and trappings of life in a city of 18 million people.
When we arrive, even the children comment on the blissful peace and quiet early in the morning.
As we can’t always make the trip home as often as we’d like, a DIY safari to a bordering-on-the-remote part of the country is what we do.
Like the sand, silence is golden….

  41. quiet moment…hmmm, let me think? those moments are rare around here, but i do have the pleasure of having a quiet moment as i read this while my kids are sleeping in!
the book sounds great!!!! would love a copy! ~patty

  42. It’s a little too quiet at my place now. At 23 and 20, my kids still need me, but there is little chance of catching them bickering or giving each other haircuts. After enjoying your writing, I would be sure to share with the young mother next door who is pregnant with her third little boy.

  43. I was blessed by 10 whole hours in the car – alone – on a recent trip to Memphis. My husband took care of our 4 children (ages 9-1) so that I could head out for a homeschool conference and hang out with my sister! Wow – that’s a ton of quiet time for me:) I found myself looking back in the rearview mirror and really missing those little faces. But, it was a sweet time for me to pray, think, and miss my family!

  44. Usually I get an hour or two in the morning when I get up before the little one. Today’s was interrupted by Daddy saying “go on”. I looked up from my computer and there was a little head just popping up over the desk. Seems someone woke up very early today and wanted her mom!

  45. I must say I cannot remember the last time I used the bathroom by myself at home… hence the reason why i truly enjoy using the restroom at work, haha 🙂 Would love to read your book 🙂

  46. I have 3 kiddos. 10, 7 and 6. I don’t think I have truely had a quiet moment since they have been born. 😉 However when they are freshly bathed and tucked in and I go in to turn off there lights, I watch them sleeping so peacefully. The quiet that fills the house after so much noise all day is my quiet time. Although the most challenging job anyone has ever ask me to do to raise these precious children, I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
    ~Sarah~

  47. I cherish the couple hours my husband and I have in the evenings after the kids go to bed. It refreshes me at the end of what’s usually been a day filled with laughter, questions, correction, 3-year-old bossiness and 1-year-old curiosity.

  48. Walking to class yesterday-the weather was beautiful for the first time in months, the birds were chirping, and the air was crisp and fresh.

  49. Oh my… well, “quiet” is relative once you get past the third child I think. Right now the only noise is my littlest giggling over a short video she’s watching on my iPod. Even though she’s got the volume turned up full blast it definitely counts as a “quiet moment” for me. 🙂

  50. Hmmmm, quiet….I think nap time is my quiet time! 🙂 However, the other day the big girls were out playing and K was eerily quiet in his room. I go in to discover that he had grabbed my cell phone off the counter and was texting just about everyone one I knew! 🙂

  51. Quiet moments only come if I get up before everyone else. I try to be up by 6-6:30 to have time in my Bible before the husband and kids get up. If I don’t, the rest of my day feels off.

  52. Just an hour ago…when my toddler was still sleeping and my husband was taking care of the oldest one. What a blessing to open my eyes just because I woke up! and only listening to silence… It was short but peaceful..

  53. Right now- up before the rest of the family, spending time in the Word and preparing for my day. It’s usually the only moment I have to myself all day!

  54. The last quiet moment I had was taking a final exam on the computer at work. I have 4 boys and so it is never quiet at our house. I have tried to go walking with my MP3 player going and for some reason my 6 year old has decided this is a good time to be with me. So we talk about his day and what he wants to do before bed. So my walking has changed from exercise to spending alone time with him. Of course that is the only calm time we have with him before he falls asleep mid-sentence. But I guess as the 2 of 4 he needs that time with me alone too.

  55. Watching my 2 boys (8 & 6) sleeping in their beds. One with a book on his chest and the other with his “cubby” securely under his arms. God has blessed me with these 2 precious babies. I hope I can help them see this as they grow up.

  56. Like many others, it is early morning, between waking children for school or just after the buses have all left when I am still in my pjs w/ a cold cup of coffee. Yesterday, I had a precious Monday where I pushed all errands off until Tuesday, read the bible, skimmed through blogs and luxuriated in God’s presence. Well, off to run those errands now 🙂

  57. My last quiet moment was last night after I got my youngest to bed and my husband was upstairs reading to my oldest. So nice.

  58. I’m a working Mom, so I like to squeeze in just a few quiet moments each day after I park the car in the lot at work but before I open the car door to head in. Just a minute to catch up after the flurry of the morning and before I have to put on my professional personality.

  59. I try to spend a few moments each night reading. After the kids have gone to bed (and before I pass out), I can usually get a couple of precious minutes to myself.

  60. I get up at 4:00 every morning to ensure I get my quiet time. I have always said that I was a morning person, and that morning is my favorite time of the day, I think that comes from having had four closely spaced children, and that qas the only quiet time I was apt to get all day. Now my youngest is a senior in High School, and quiet time is no longer at a premium, but mornings spent with God are still my favorite part of the day! I would love to pass this book on to my own daughter who hs two rowdy toddlers of her own.
    ~Blessings~

  61. I’m in the season of life where quiet is the norm; often too quiet. My sons are grown and gone. I would love a copy of this book for a dear friend in the middle of the mom trenches with 5 children ages 12-5. Thanks for the opportunity

  62. Oooh ooh oooh…this past weekend my husband took one son out, and my oldest son took the other out, and I was left at home with just the dog! It was bliss. I watched a chick flick, and snacked on chips and salsa. Loved it…

  63. Hi,
I just read your little piece about your book. I have to smile and cry all in one, as I read it and before I came to the end I was just thinking about how God the father calls out to us, cries out to us, begs us, and how He finally came down to us. I wonder where we would be if not for that gift of grace. What sacrifice, what love that God would send His son to come and meet us in our silent mess.

  64. Quiet? Even if it’s “quiet” my thoughts still race. So, hmmm, my last time would be in that small sliver of space after I put the kids to bed, and they actually fall ASLEEP and I sit in my bed to read one of the few books on my nightstand. Or pray. Or look up scriptures. And then I lay all books down and just sit, quietly. It’s a small and rare window of opportunity and I had one of those, two nights ago.

  65. Hmmmm…. the last quiet time? I feel the need to stay up late when the kiddos are sleeping to really experience quiet time. It doesn’t do much good to be sleep deprived the next day though.

  66. I had a moment last night after bible study. We are meeting at a friends house, she lives out in the country with plowed fields all around her house. It was about 8:00 pm when I went out side and I just stood out looking at the sky and the clouds and the fields and felt the wind blowing on me and me and God just a time of worshipping Him in just those few moments.

  67. I remember the days of constant chatter, rough housing, arguing and full blown fighting! The days when I longed for “just 5 minutes peace”.
Even tho my children are all 4 years apart, I always had a little one coming up thru the ranks so there was always someone hanging on my leg and as they got older, my waist and older still, my shoulders!
Sometimes, I would send them out to the great outdoors and say, “Duke it out and whoever survives will continue to be my child”! That usually stopped them….for a moment.
Don’t be alarmed….we all survived! They are wonderful adults and supplying us with wonderful grandchildren!

  68. My FAVORITE quiet moments are when my 15 month is playing by herself, reading her books, or stacking toys (which is her new skill LOL) … she’s just so peaceful playing there independently 🙂 and when she’s got her fav pillow and is leaned back looking at her books – – makes my heart leap! 😀

  69. Just recently, our two-year old little girl was playing in her room. I sat in the floor and joined her. While playing with blocks and having a good time, she says “Mommy, pray.” I asked if she wanted me to pray, making sure of what I just heard. She nodded her head. So, we prayed together. It was beautiful.

  70. The last quiet moment I had was this weekend. We were in the mountains. I wanted to see the sunrise and could just leave my little ones in the bed, so I got them up and took them with me. We hiked out to a point and sat quietly and watched the sunrise together. A quiet moment with my kids(!), who knew, it was great!

I can’t wait to read your book!

  71. I would have to say in the bathroom on Sunday after church! I locked myself in for a few minutes to relax!

  72. Quiet time….I need it to breathe. Every morning after my cup of coffee and some ice on my back I take time to breathe in God’s goodness in the quiet. It’s my gift to myself before the house begins to roar. It fuels me to meet the day…with Him first.

  73. my last quiet moment…last night my husband took the baby for 15 minutes so i could take a hot bath. it was a much-needed 15 minutes. 🙂

  74. Please enter me in the drawing for your book. I am an empty nester, so I have many quiet moments. But I also live close enough to grandchildren to do quite a bit of babysitting, those busy, noisy moments are times to cherish also. I would like to give this book to my daughter. Thank you and God bless.

  75. Mine was yesterday. The kids were occupied in the living room, so I snuck into the garage and ate an ice cream sandwich in the dark (so as to not blow my cover)!

  76. This looks like a great book! I only get quiet moments when my son is at his dad’s every other weekend and even then sometimes it’s noisy. 🙂

  77. my quiet moments recently seem to be finding my little girl in the corner refusing to tell me she needs to go potty 🙂 (I have been working on that for a while now.)

  78. I don’t get many quiet moments lately. Lots of kids around at lots of hours of the day and night. It’s been something I have realized I need more and more.

  79. I quietly went into my bedroom and laid down for 5 minutes….while I pet the cat, who was already taking a nap there. I understand petting animals is supposed to lower stress levels. Maybe I should carry the cat around in a sling–so she is available for “stress” petting all day!

  80. Just an hour ago while I took a shower. I managed to shower and get completely ready without being interrupted by my 3-year old. Amazing! (Thank you PBS!) I am watching my sisters kids today, so by 3:45 I will have 7 kids ages 9 and under. Let the chaos begin!

  81. My last quiet moment was this morning. I have given up that last 30 minutes of sleep for Lent in order to try to meet my God each day and it has become beautiful. Yes, I am crazy sleepy and ready for bed just as soon as my “littles” go to sleep each night, but my time with God plus the fact that I don’t have to share it with anyone else is amazing and quite addictive!

  82. My last quiet moment was just now…reading your blog–a few quiet moments after getting my husband and daughters off to school (he’s a teacher) and ironing an extra shirt (strike while the iron’s hot) so that I won’t have to do that tomorrow morning again, and putting away the bread and peanut butter and other lunch accessories, and heading out the door to teach 6 piano lessons and one guitar lesson and one K-2 music lesson at school. Today we’re making rainsticks out of tubes and beans and rice.

I so often feel like a failure at this parenting issue. Your blog was encouraging to me. I would really like to read your book. We deal with a lot of issues on a daily basis, and I appreciate any encouragement I can find from other parents. Thank you!

  83. Quiet moments are rare at our house. In fact I am coming to realize that I don’t enjoy the quiet times as much as I used to. Having all 7 of the kids in the same room is becoming more rare, so so those are the times I am beginning to treasure more and more. In the next few years our oldest will be going out on his own and beginning his own family. Thankfully we still have a 3yo who will keep the conversations going!

  84. Almost every morning I get up early with my hubby, he makes me coffee and breakfast and I read email and blogs! Does that count … cause I love my mornings!

  85. The last quiet moment I had was while giving my 10 month old baby a breathing treatment while he slept. The house was quiet, everyone else was in bed the only noise was the hum of the nebulizer.

  86. My last quiet moment was this morning. Tuesday morning is my weekly Bible study with a great group of friends. Every Tuesday I have to beg and plead (and yes, scream) my kids out of bed to leave a little early so I can get there on time. Many days I am so frazzled by the time I get there (talk about Satan at work!). Today, though, my in-laws are visiting and my father-in-law said he wanted to take my boys to school. So not only was my morning at home better, but I had a nice peaceful drive and didn’t feel like I flew into Bible study on my broomstick!!!

  87. I was blessed with about 45 minutes this morning after hubby left for work and my 2 littles uncharacteristically “slept in”. Given that the past 2 mornings I have been up well before Daddy’s alarm goes off. We have been battling slight temps, coughs, runny noses and just plain yuckiness. They needed the extra sleep and I needed the rare but precious moments to prepare for the day. (Dr.’s appt on schedule again.)

  88. As an empty nester you’d think I have alot of time but it’s so not true I get one day a week and sometimes not even that my daughter spends every day during the week here and on the weekends my son comes over. So the last time I had quiet time is right now I’m waiting for my daughter I’m babysitting today. 🙂 Who said parenting stops when your kids leave.
    Holly

  89. Ha, I used to have lots. I was empty nested for 2 1/2 years. Then my adult children, because of unexpected complications in life, have put them under my roof once again. With the addition of my 1 year old grandson. Quiet time? ha. Unfortunately that is the things that has suffered the most. My quiet time with the Lord. After 2 months I’m finally adjusting enough to work in little snippets of quiet time here and there. It’s most appreciated now! I do beleive I had been taking it for granted!! I would love a copy of your book for myself and to share with my daughter.

  90. I’m potty training my 2 year old twins this spring break week. Between them encouraging each other to “hurry, hurry!” to the potty and “Mommmyyyy!” when they don’t quite make it, plus the sugar high from the Kool Aid to help them go more — my quiet moment was when they finally went to bed after a full day and no nap. Sigh. Bliss!!

  91. My last quiet moment was Sunday at church when the Pastor told me he looked into the nursery and my youngest was singing Beiber… LOL. 🙂 She is not yet 2, and her Aunt has been watching her and teaching it to her. I thought why not Jesus Loves Me? (which she did later sing for him) I had to take a few minutes alone in a Sunday school classroom and remember that it really doesn’t matter what craziness our children do or say or what silly songs they decide to belt out at odd times. What matters in our lives and our hearts is the love we have for them and the love we have for our Father. I know that God didn’t mind her cute little impromptu performance for everyone, even if it drives mama nuts. So I just gave it to God and have been having to continually give him a lot of other of my daughters’ moments of frustration and acting out and moments that cause me to lose my patience and forget why I am glad I was blessed with them.
After all, being a parent is indeed not easy! Sometimes I want to give myself timeouts. My husband has repeated asked me to give him a timeout in the corner too. LOL. My preference is to be put in the closet, no I don’t put my children in the closet, I myself would like to be put in there and locked up away from them. I’ve thought about running in there and hiding in the dark on more than one occassion! But those are the times when we just have to lift it up to God and know that he is bigger than the situation and He can bring us through it.

  92. I try and steal 1/2 hour after the kids go to bed and lock myself in the bathroom and have bath. Then my husband can listen to the I have to pee and I need a glass of water.

  93. as the 102nd comment, I sense some resonation with your topic! Even my boys commented (as this is not a quiet moment), “that’s a good one!”

Discovering during a hectic dinner-making-rush that my 4 year old had completely set the table, unasked, gave me pause. and a much needed hug!

Have a day filled with wonder and delight!

  94. My quiet moment is right now. Every morning from 7-8 (my daughter wakes up @ 8). 🙂 Fingers crossed that I win a copy of your book! I’m in need of some encouragement! Thanks for sharing!

  95. Laying down in bed this morning before the kids woke up and I had to get up to pee. I’m 8 months pregnant. 🙂 This would be a bright spot in my day.

  96. This may sound completely INSANE, but I have quiet moments often. My bonus kids are only here every other weekend and due to a genetic blood clotting disorder called MTHFR (yes I know it looks like a bad word), I’ve had 3 miscarriages, most recent in February. I’d give anything to have a ton of LOUD moments…to experience what the rest of you experience on a daily basis. I know that may sound crazy, but I’d love to have more crazy, chaotic moments with a child in the house or children, than live in the silence that I have most of the time. I WANT to have to yell “Don’t Make Me Come Up There….!”. That would be a dream come true. 🙂

  97. Seriously? Quiet moment? I honestly can’t remember, unless it was last week when I was waiting on the doc to finish up my yearly physical……pathetic huh? lol.

  98. Spent the weekend at a cabin last weekend and go to watch the snow outside while the baby napped and the older 2 were outside sledding. Bliss

  99. Last week my husband had taken the kids and I was finishing up the dishes from dinner and I sat down for a quick email check and suddenly realized how quiet the house was. It echoed in my head it was so quiet. I almost couldn’t leave the house to go to my appt. I wanted to lay on the couch and soak in the quietness…

  100. My sweet husband finished putting up a fence in our front yard this past weekend, yesterday it was so nice out I grabbed a magazine I had been wanting to read took my two year old son out side and sat reading and enjoying the sun while my son played in the yard. After about 5 minutes my son comes up to me with a big smile and a face covered in dirt he had found a bunch of little rocks and was chowing down..

  101. My only quiet moments usually are around 5 to 6 am when I try to have daily devotions before the kiddos wake up. On occasion I do get to sneak a quick walk thru the woods by the creek during naptime.
Would so love to win a book. Thanks for the giveaway. God bless

  102. I still have the occasional quiet moment because my 1st baby isn’t due for another month…but with all of our preparations for the little one, they’re getting to be fewer and further between!

  103. I have waited for this time for over 5 years. My second one is in preschool and now each week I have (3) 2.5 hour breaks. I can do WHATEVER I want, well within reason of course. What have I learned? That I feel lost without my children, those first 5 years go by so fast and I will never get it back. I wander aimlessly around town. I do go into Starbuck’s to place my order instead of the drivethru, because I can. Everyone says it goes by in the blink of an eye. I guess it is just something you have to experience in order to believe them.

  104. Oh my gosh…how many of these moments I have had…and usually quiet kids means up to something bad at my house too. I am fortunate to have quitet moments when all my kids are at school in the afternoon. Blessed to be a SAHM for past 9 months and get quiet everyday…so strange still.

  105. I’m not sure how to comment, is it the quiet that I have now as I work from home while my kids are at school and daycare? Those don’t count because I don’t love these moments. I hate them. But I do them so we can have health insurance. Stinks. But a quiet moment can usually found when i’m loading the dishwasher. No one seems to be around then. I wonder why? 🙂 But they leave me to the dishes, I run the water (gasp!) and drown everything out around me. Sometimes on the weekend I can catch a quiet moment to myself for coffee and the paper or something on the DVR i’ve been waiting to watch. But those moments don’t usually last long. Somehow my kids know i’m up. And while they would sleep until 930 during the school week, on the weekends 700 is normal. Strange how that works.

  106. We were headed to New Orleans & stopped at a McDonalds & I had my hubby stand guard at a restroom door that didnt lock while he watched my 3 kids play on the playground. That was my 3 minutes of alone/quiet time on the trip! Lol

  107. This past Saturday my husband took my two young boys out for a “guy’s adventure” and I was blessed with 2 blissful hours at home alone. I turned on my favorite music and sat on the couch with my laptop and blogged a letter to my mom, who passed away almost a year ago now. Having this quiet time alone with my thoughts and prayers was so restoring to my spirit!

  108. To be honest, I have way too many quiet moments with children away at college and the only one left in 8th grade! I miss the chaotic noise of children in and out, laughing and even yelling at each other! I miss the door opening and closing a million times a day, and even the door being left open for hours in 32 degree weather. Oh, how I long to go back and soak in every moment of those whirlwind days! They are precious times! These days, I lead several Bible studies to young moms who don’t have time to sit down, and I think this book would be the perfect “prize” for our next meeting!

  109. My last quiet moment was last night while I read some of “One Thousand Gifts” after my sweet, almost 3 month old, fell asleep! It was so refreshing!

  110. My last quiet moment was early this morning (5 am) when I woke up to do some early editing (I’m a part-time freelance writer/editor) before the little guys woke up. The cool part was that off in the distance, I could hear birds singing. Peaceful and pleasant way to wake up, for sure! 🙂

  111. My last quiet moment was when my daughter “read” to herself and I got to read too. It wa magical

  112. I have 3 babes and #4 due in Aug. All under 5 and my husband took the 2 oldest out yesterday for the whole day. It was quiet while the baby napped, but my heart was not quiet, took me several hours to calm my thoughts, concerns, so towards the end of the day though the house had been quiet for hours, I finally found my quiet spot…book sounds amazing!!!!

  113. My quiet moment is right now with 3 kids at school and the last one watching Bob the Builder. We have had fun this year with just him and me! (that’s the 2 days a week that I am not homeschooling!) ….But when he dissappears to his room and is quiet, that’s not the good quiet!

  114. Awesome! I’m actually having one of those “free” days today!
My hubby took our girls with him to work and I’m home alone!
Wondering WHO wants to go do lunch? hehe

  115. My story is very similar to the ones above…quiet times are few and far between but most occur at night after the kids are asleep. The most treasured ones are watching them sleep wondering what they are dreaming.

  116. I have felt just like this excerpt more than once. I have 5 children ranging from 21 – 11 and quite times have been hard to come by in the past. They still need intentional planning! My lastest quiet moment was today! I was reflecting on how much God has given us! We don’t have wealth in “things”, but we have wealth in family, relationships, friends. We have depth of relationships that I am grateful for. We also have all our needs taken care of today (and tomorrow!) and again, I am grateful.
I love to read, so this book is on my “list”!

  117. My quiet time is each night when everyone is finally sleeping and I hear no more pitter patters of feet across the floor and my husband is laying next to me snoring. It’s my time to read Scripture and devotional books. Many times I lose track of time and read too long – lack of sleep but treasured quiet time.

  118. I prefer to start my day in prayer and end my day reading His Word. It has dramatically changed my outlook and attitude. And on a perfect day when all the naps align, I read. I’m almost done with “One Thousand Gifts”. Would love to read this next!

  119. I attempt to put my daughter down for quiet time in the afternoon, and take some of that time for myself….key word being attempt.

  120. Sadly, on the toilet. Even that was a rare occasion because i’m certain when I go in the bathroom and shut the door they have some kind of inner sensor that tells them to come find me and come and sit in the bathroom with me! The Joys of Mothering…

  121. hah! I have so been where you described. My last quiet moment…..kids were playing nicely together. coloring in their school room. love those moments. =0)

  122. This past Sunday it was a snowy, cold day so we decided to learn to make friendship bracelets. My four children worked quietly and contently for hours. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

  123. Well, “quiet” is such a relative term around here. I’ll say Sunday afternoon … nap time for the youngest, so that left 3 girls busy coloring and playing out elaborate scenarios with stuffed animals and barbies and markers as stand-ins. I laid down to read and quite by suprise, slept for over an hour!

  124. Having bronchitis these days with a cough that will send chills up and down your spine, I have sequestered myself to our guest room until the worst is over. In this room, I set up all the fixings for making tea. And when the coughing gets bad, or the sleep quits early (4:30am)… I get up and have a cup, look up and get filled up with courage for the day ahead. That was my quiet moment this morning. It was oh so very nice. Thanks for asking!

  125. My last quiet moment was last Saturday. My oldest two daughters and I were leaving at noon on a mission trip. The girls were still sleeping. My husband, son and youngest daughter had already left for soccer. I sat and read in God’s word in preparation for my week away to serve Him. With four children, I’m rarely alone. I sometimes plan alone time and it is foiled, but this was set aside by God to bask in Him. Praise you Jesus!

  126. Last quiet moment I had was last night when my wonderful husband let me retreat to our room for some peace and quiet after he got home from work. After spending all day with 3 kids under 4yrs. I needed it! 😉

  127. My last quite moment was yesterday when the kids went over to my Mom’s house to play for a couple of hours!

  128. Unfortunately with all the company this past weekend Friday-Monday, my last quiet time was a week ago Monday when my 2 year old took her afternoon nap. 🙂 I hoping to get that quiet time again in a few hours.

  129. My quiet moments come when the kids are in bed asleep. The house is so quiet that it feels weird. I can so relate to your book! Have a great day 🙂

  130. My last quiet moment was when I realized my 9 year old wasn’t making enough noise (I had gotten distracted by filing paperwork in my office). Found him having eaten half a carton of Mocha Espresso Chip Ice Cream (the half gallon size) instead of getting an approved snack… Yeah, the rest of the afternoon/evening wasn’t very quiet.

  131. I could use a little perspective right now. Last quite moment was when I went to the bathroom and told my two year old I needed some privacy and she closed and reopened the door and said “You need some “pacery” mommy?” She is so dang cute but I do need quiet time too.

  132. My last quiet moment of real solitude and peace and contentment? Nursing my little precious 2 month old baby while the older 5kids were still sleeping. He’s turning 1 this week, and my heart is breaking. This sounds like a book I would love to read, and one I would have love to have written! 🙂

  133. It sounds like a wonderful book. My last quiet moment was in the hospital, waiting for my oldest to return from tonsillectomy. I’ve been pampering him ever since including him sleeping in my room for a week!

  134. I suppose my last quiet moment would be this morning as I drug myself out of bed at 6 am to try to hold myself accountable for the goal of having daily “quiet time.” I sat down in our big easy chair to pray and read God’s word. Then the next thing I realized, there were two small toddlers covered in toothpaste and giggling in front of me. Yes, I’m transparent, and yes, I fell asleep while praying to my Father. (I repented 🙂 And yes… it was a wonderful quiet moment!

  135. I am a single mother with a demanding corporate job, but love my job as a mother and a professional. Last Thursday my sitter was on vacation and I was sick! My idea of working from home with 4 year old was not working. My grandmother called to check on us and said bring her up here so you can rest! I was in the car before I got off the phone with her! LOL I felt bad for dropping her off, but I needed time to get better and be sick without having to take care of someone else. I slept til 230 and woke up refreshed and feeling tons better!! My grandma even kept my daughter all night and I did nothing……no laundry, no dishes, no cleaning. I read and enjoyed the quiet time, because these days…..it is rare! I am excited to read this book 😉

  136. My last quiet moment, 2 years ago.
My husband and I had received the gift of early retirement while we were still in our 40’s. The Lord allowed us to purchase 10 acres of land outside of a sleepy little hamlet in rural Northern Canada. My husband and I went from the hustle and bustle of raising three children, working 40-80 hours a week, and my husband traveling the globe to watching magnificent sunsets in the evening and deer eating the tall grass in our back yard at sunrise. Life was amazing. Then everything changed! Our middle daughter became involved with a man who loved alcohol and boxing more than her and their children. It all came to a head one early morning when he attacked her with a butcher knife. Thankfully the Lord intervened and the knife missed her and the child on her hip. That was the night our retirement and the quiet moments came to an end. We invited our daughter and her two children to move into our perfectly clean and professionally decorated home.
We now live among toys where there was once crystal and antiques, clutter everywhere, noise that competes at time with a moving locomotive.
Our daughter is in full time nursing school to make a better life for her and her children, my husband has taken another full time job with the oil industry, meaning he works 14-16 hour days and me looking after preschool children full time once again.
Quiet time? I find mine at 4a.m when I wake to spend time with our Lord before our precious grandchildren wake up with a million demands. My husband finds his quiet time the ten minutes he drives to and from his place of business.
Please, don’t get me wrong, we love our life as it is now. We have 8 grandchildren with another on the way, with only two belonging to our middle girl. Would we go back to a quiet and peaceful way of life? You bet, but it wouldn’t be the fun we have now, I mean for all the original art we have hanging on the walls, non are as precious as the crayon pictures we have that have been created for us by little hands lovingly gripping crayons and markers, scribbling their best pictures of life as they know it.
The Christmas and birthday gifts that have been bought for us at dollar stores and made out of playdough now sit with honor where once sat expensive objects which have either been broken, sold or given away as we no longer have room for them in our home or in our hearts.
Yes we still find quiet moments, in between the cacophony of life, but most importantly, we find love and blessings abundantly.

  137. I’m having a lovely quiet moment right now…just checked on the eerie silence and found my three kids hard at work building a fort out of items they’ve collected from the yard. 🙂

  138. The last quiet moment I had was yesterday morning during my time with the Lord. I don’t know if it really counts as a quiet moment though since my 4yr old and my 16 month old we’re playing in the other room being rowdy little boys. That’s about as quiet as a moment can get for me these days :).

  139. What a beautiful book! My last quiet moment was a 10 minute escape to the beach, where I pulled off my boots and ran barefoot across the sunny sand, dancing, twirling, reveling in God’s beautiful creation. I thank the Lord for that short time away from the rest of life. 🙂

    Sheila

  140. Quiet moments happened better before Daylight Savings Time change, when I would wake up early for scripture study and journal time. I’m still setting the alarm, and then sleeping in and only having time for 10 minutes. But, step by step, they’re coming back longer and longer.

  141. My favorite quiet moment is early in the morning laying in bed before the day begins. I can hear my two boys (6 and 3) playing quietly in their room together and the sound melts my heart – I thank God everyday for giving me that moment.

  142. I was fortunate to have a scrapbook week-end a couple of weeks ago. Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon. No children all week-end. My food and dishes done for me too! Did I miss my children? Yes. However, as I tell them, I was staring at them all week-end working on their scrapbooks.

  143. I’ve had too much quiet lately as our youngest of five kids is in the hospital awaiting heart surgery, she is 4 months old. Makes me wish for all the noise and bustle of home….

  144. To be honest, I haven’t had a quiet moment in a long time. My girls are so busy and active and they dont’ like to sleep!! 🙂 A genuine moment is when we are driving in our van. The girls like music and so we drive and chill to music.

  145. Quiet doesn’t come easy around BrownTown. I daily dive into God’s word and jounal what I’ve learned for the day. I’m sunk without Hin.

  146. the most recent quiet moment was wondering where our two adventurous little 3 yr old grandson and 23 mon old granddaughter were (it was way too quiet). I gingerly walked across the livingroom to find them in their room playing with the kitchen set (which used to be their momma’s) he was cooking for her and she was pouring them some tea. So adorable and priceless. Me and “Momma” just stood there and watched for we sat there w/smiles on our faces while they “chatted about things” to each other. Of course “the phone” rang (that is on the kitchen set) that was too adorable when she handed him the phone and says “phone for you”. lol

  147. Well, my last quiet moment, my two girls “sharing” a blanket while we watched a movie together on Sunday. It was a rare moment indeed and I paused to marvel at it!

  148. I have two teenage boys which brings a different kind of noise than when they were little. But I still appreciate those quiet moments. Mornings are my times of quiet. I live in the country and love to watch the sunrise while I eat breakfast and read my Bible. Just a few moments of quiet reflection makes such a difference.

  149. Oh Yay! I hope I get a copy! I love your blog and what your doing with the Mercy House.
My quiet moments are in the afternoon between 1:00 and 2:20….this is one the 2 little ones go down for a nap and before the 2 older ones come home from school. My favorite quiet thing to do…..read all my favorite blogs and sip on my Chai tea.

  150. My favorite quiet moment is about midnight…everyone is asleep…& I am alone with my Bible and my thoughts…makes for a peaceful night’s sleep for me too! 🙂

  151. After babysitting my Grandchildren for my daughter and her husband a few week-ends ago, I wondered if she ever finds time for herself? I would love to give her this book for Mother’s Day this year. 🙂

  152. Quiet?… First thing in the morning… after hubby leaves for work, but before the kiddos begin to stir…
Can’t count on quiet night times anymore… Teenagers are more nightowl than even me! 🙂

  153. Actually, about an hour ago. The older kids were at the kitchen table, working on their math, the 18 mo/old was next to them, scribbling with crayons on a piece of paper. It was so wonderful, I was afraid to breathe.

Then the boy started throwing crayons at his sisters and the quiet moment was over.

  154. Kristen,
The last quiet moment I had was this past weekend. I went to a conference for my job that was 2.5 hours away, it was the least stressful drive I have had in over two years. I take my kids to the babysitters every morning and then go to work which is less than 5 min away, then I get them and drive home. I cannot remember the last time I was able to drive for any amount of time without screaming, laughing, singing, or talking (up until last weekend). It was so wonderful. I didn’t even mind the traffic.

  155. hmmmm, a quiet moment. we’ve got 6 little noise-makers around here, so there’s not a whole lot of quiet. it would have to be at night after they’ve all {FINALLY} fallen asleep.
    thanks!
    shana

  156. The last quiet moment – in the back of my office at the middle school I’m a counselor at….while pumping! ha! So here I sit in a tiny room that is so cold I have to bring a space heater that blows in my face while I expose my tatas in order to supply milk for our sweet baby boy. 🙂 During that time I either look at picture of him, pray, text or somehow figure out how to hold the pump with one hand so I can flip the page of a magazine. ahhhh….how desperate we mom’s are for quiet time huh!?

  157. Usually my quiet time is early in the morning before anyone wakes up. I exercise, do a chore or two, and pray. It is a wonderful time but I love the noise of my two little ones. 🙂 The book sounds wonderful. It would be good reading at 6a.

  158. My last quiet moment… right now reading (in)courage! I think I’m going to have to buy your book even if I don’t win the drawing!

  159. My last quiet moment (away from the kids) was my drive to work this morning. However, I had to deal with crazy drivers. I can’t tell you that last time I had a true quiet moment. That thought truly convicts me…I need to make a quiet time with God a priority. No excuses!

  160. Early this morning, 6:15am, sun barely rising. Slowly, my four emerged from their rooms. Each one, smiling, two greeting with a big “hi mommy” (we have not gotten to the “good morning” greeting I always hope for), sweet hugs from my 2 year old like I had been gone and just found. So priceless. However, at that hour I don’t think too well, so it was yesterday afternoon, the two younger napping, the two older reading quietly beside me on the couch, while I sipped afternoon coffee and read a little Bible, a little childrearing book, a little devotional for moms. It was sane for a just a second (and only if I didn’t look around to glance at the many toys to be picked up and kitchen to be cleaned). Wildly luxurious!

  161. Last quiet moment? Hmm…is it bad that I can’t remember? Oh wait! Last Tuesday I met with another couple (along w/my husband) for prayer. But I wasn’t alone.

If I can manage to get up early in the mornings again, I’ll have a couple of hours to myself each morning. Well, a couple hours with God, really. But yea, I really need that time–and I really need it in the morning before everyone starts waking up.

  162. Would love this.
After hosting my inlaws for well over a week… I’m having trouble remembering if I even had opportunity for a quiet time this week. But, alas, yesterday – my two year old was playing independently and I thought, “let’s just see if I could sneak in some quiet reading while she plays”, and wouldn’t you know – for 20 whole minutes I was able to bask in truth with the occasional, “yes honey, that’s great”. She loved that I was sitting in the living room with her – and I loved that she was actually “letting” me read. 🙂 I shouldn’t get used to this though, as I’m almost 8 months preggo and about to start all over again… 🙂

  163. I can’t really remember my last quiet time, other than my quiet time with God each morning I can pull myself out of bed, however, this Thursday night, I’m spending the night with a friend and on Friday when she goes to work, I get her house to myself to have a little mini retreat, just me and God. This is the first time I’ve done this and I am looking so forward to it. My plan is to try to do one of these every couple months or so. Thank you for the chance to win. Have a wonderful “quiet” day.

    koinonia572001@yahoo.com

  164. Quiet moment … last weekend, I went scrapbooking with my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and 2 friends. I did take my baby with, and my two older kiddos stayed with daddy. Baby stayed with my mom in the hotel room! 😉 I did get a couple hours here and there of actual scrapbook time. Yea!
Thanks for a great give-away. Can’t wait to read your new book. 🙂

  165. Quiet time, hmmm. Don’t remember what that is like with a little one with croup, bronchitis and diarrhea who doesn’t want to be out of my sight. This too shall pass so I know it will get better. I have gotten a little quiet time to do my bible study while DD is eating.
Would love this book, thanks for the giveaway!

  166. Two of my kids (4, 2) went upstairs together to get something – so it’s quiet right now. I’m sure they’ll be back soon!

  167. About 3 weeks ago my boyfriends mother’s heart stopped. He got a flight to Kentucky on a Monday but I still had school and my son to take care of and I couldn’t go. For most of the week I made arraingements for my Mom to take care of my son so that I could make the drive. On Thursday afternoon I jumped in the car and had a full five hours of silence. (The first hour my mom, grandma, boyfriend, and cousin called me one after another so it wasn’t peaceful then.) I was able to be alone in my thoughts. It was glorious! I didn’t realize how much I needed to drive out of state to get some mental relaxation.

  168. I only have one little blessing (age 6 months) and since she’s napping it’s time for tea and some encouragement via blog time…ahhh, peaceful.

  169. My last quiet moment was yesterday morning when my older two boys were at school and my baby feel asleep for his nap. I had two glorious hours of silence and it was absolutely amazing. No TV, no music…nothing except the wind, birds and me. I loved it!

  170. I’m actually not a mom yet, but hopefully when we start having kids I will be able to be a stay at home mom. My husband and I really want to wait until he has a full time job before we start a family and we only got married in May 2010. My last quiet moment was this morning. We actually thought we might have been pregnant, this morning I got up to take a HPT and my monthly buddy came for a visit. Although we had not planned on starting a family, I really thought I was pregnant. I had what I at least thought were symptoms. This morning, I just sat and prayed and gave God the glory even though I was (still am) a little sad to have to wait a while longer before we can start a family. I know that everything happens in God’s timing so it’s just a matter of waiting on Him now.

Your book sounds amazing. Any books we can get out hands on before we become parents would be a very helpful blessing.

  171. It’s nap time for my daughter right now, and I actually just went and sat in the closet for 5 minutes, just to make myself be quiet (and not be distracted by the computer). It was really nice!

  172. Sunday night, after an afternoon playdate with 3 year olds (yikes!), both kids fell asleep at 6pm (before dinner) and my husband fell asleep on the couch. I had the whole evening to myself to watch whatever I wanted on tv and catch up on fun computer reading. 🙂

  173. Quiet moments are few and far between…the last time I managed to snag one, both of my girls (2.5 and 9 months) had decided to nap AT. THE. SAME. TIME. for 2+ hours on a weekend afternoon. I finally read more than one page of a book I’d been working on for months, managed to catch a movie on TV and eat some potato chips without having to share!

  174. Today I had a quiet moment. We (huns and I) live in a house of students on a university campus, about 1 block from school. It’s rarely quiet in our house. But this week is spring break and it’s been such a blessing! Quietness abounds…our windows are open and only the air is coming in. I’m 6 mos pregnant and know these moments won’t last too long. I’m looking foward to getting your book!

  175. Yesterday was the first really nice day we have had outside since, oh, OCTOBER, so my kids (4 and almost 2) were busting to get outside. Usually when they go outside it ends in a)tears b)somebody stepping in dog poop c)something broken, or d)all of the above. But yesterday they played outside in the back yard for over an hour, just the 2 of them, running around and enjoying each other and nature. It was so exciting to see them becoming not just siblings, but friends.

  176. My daughter has been sick this last week so when she’s sleeping I’ve had a nice quiet moment. But it has truly made me realize that i don’t like the quietness at all!

  177. Quiet time- nap time! I hold on to that two hour period fiercely.
There was recently a day when the 1 yr was hungry (and therefore cranky), the 3 yr old was pooping on the downstairs bathroom floor and the 4 yr old was flooding the upstairs bathroom floor by splashing in her bath. As Daddy came home for dinner that I was supposed to be making in between running the stairs.

  178. ahhhh, my quiet moment is usually at the end of the day after everyone has gone to bed and I sit down to read. Love it, Love reading your blog too!
Thanks so much & God bless!

  179. The last quiet moment I had was this morning. Today was day 2 (woohoo!!) of getting up early in the morning to spend time with the Lord. This is something I have fought and excused myself from for years since having kids. I am currently using my husband as my alarm clock, and (for 2 days in a row) it has worked. He showers and wakes me up, so I can be sure to have a quiet time. I have four boys, so once my “quiet time” is over, there isn’t another quiet moment until bedtime.

  180. Oh how I love your blog. I have always been a night owl and I love the silence of the wee hours. No music, TV, cars driving by, talking. If someone is awake, it is loud. The loudness in my house is my greatest blessing after my Savior and my husband, but I enjoy silence at the very, very end of the day. Like just last night!

  181. I had baby #2 a month ago today, so I’d say it was the night before that. #1 was with grandparents & #2 in utero, just hubs & I enjoyed a quiet dinner.

  182. I just had my 3rd baby three weeks ago – so my quiet moments tend to happen at 3 in the morning while I’m nursing my girl. And as tired as I am…I do enjoy the quiet moments for just the two of us! I’m new to your blog – and am loving it! Thanks!

  183. My last quiet moment was this morning around 6:30 before my kids woke up. I make a point to rise before the kids each day so that I have a little quiet time in my day.

  184. We fostered an autistic little boy in January this year and I think I can safely say my last moment of peace was before then. Yet with the chaos new life has been brought to our home.

  185. I have nothing but quiet moments any more. Thirty years of parenting, and things have grown a lot quieter over the past few. I did, however, share this link with a few good friends whose homes are filled with the beautiful chaos of noisy children, days I dearly miss. All my best to you and all the other young moms walking through days I often wish I could relive. I love you all, mean it.

  186. 5:45 am – in order to have a quiet moment, and fill up for the day so I have something to give out, I get up before my husband and 4 children. Years ago the thought of getting up that early would make me cringe – by nature I had always been a night owl – now, it is my oasis.

  187. My quiet moments come in the middle of the night after I feed my 5- month old daughter. My 4 year old son asleep in his room, my daughter falls back to sleep quickly after eating, and I find myself staying up a little while longer so I can squeeze in some ‘me time.’ 🙂

  188. I actually got a quiet moment this morning. I usually wake up at the same time as the kids, but today I couldn’t sleep because it is my birthday and my husband said last night that I might want to get up early this morning. I came downstairs and my husband had set up a scavenger hunt for me to find my gift! It was adorable, he hid little clues all around the house and it was a fun “alone time” moment for me.

  189. Mine was this morning actually. I was dressed for work and pushing through to get the big boys ready for school. I had Lil Man dressed and was working on Lil Bit. Lil Man was quiet which usually indicates that he’s into something he’s not supposed to be in to. I finished dressing Lil Bit and went to check on Lil Man, just knowing I would find a mess … Instead I found him laying quietly on his bed thumbing through a book we have been reading at night. I asked what he was doing and he said he was anxious to look ahead and see what we would be reading about tonight at bedtime.

  190. It’s 80 degrees here today! I slathered on some sun lotion that smells like the beach and hit the backyard during nap time. If I closed my eyes and imagined really hard, I could hear the ocean!

  191. I am currently having a “quiet moment”!!!!! Both kids are napping at the same time. Can we say MIRACLE?! I look forward to the day when my kids can read together. At 2 and 10 months, they are still a little young to be best friends, but… someday!

  192. Only in the wee hours of the morning is it quiet in my home. I play nightly “pingpong” between bedrooms after bathing, reading and singing to my fabulous five until they are all all tucked in and sleeping. Then it’s Hubby time and picking up for another beautiful and crazy day. If I need quiet time to read, it’s either stay up too late (my preference) or get up too early (which usually I am shortly joined by some little person who just somehow knew I was up!) 🙂 it’s all worth it but man, I’d have more to give my kiddoes (newborn-9 years old) if I could get some refresh time!

Got the baby fingernail trimming mastered but I’m gonna have to try nursing and loading the dishwasher, though! Or not! Ha! 🙂

  193. I’m in my quiet moment right now. 🙂 In fact, after reading some wisdom from a mom of many kids, I realized how important it was to schedule in a daily quiet time for all of us – even after the kids are old enough to go without naps. I treasure this time as it helps me regroup and feel ready to take on the late afternoon/early evening tasks.

  194. I have had quiet time all day today as I don’t have children–yet. Oh, I crave the opposite – a noisy, laughter-filled house with children playing. Soon. Very soon. We are adopting (2) children from China and hope to travel sometime summer/fall of this year after waiting over 5 years for them. One day I will need the quiet time and for now, I just treasure what I have.

  195. My last quiet moment was this morning while pouring my coffee. It only lasts a few minutes because no matter what time I get up, a little one follows shortly after. But, I know someday the house will be all too quiet.

  196. just now. in my car. husband came home so that I could escape for lunch with my bible study girls. 2 year old is just waking up from his nap…. had a lovely lunch with dear friends and a calm 5 minutes in the car. 🙂

  197. my last quiet moment was this afternoon during my “quiet time.” I still have the kids go to their rooms and just chill for a little bit. During this time, I lay down on the couch and chill myself.

  198. The other night when my husband and I were in bed (about 11pmish), I said to him, “do you hear that? It is peace and quiet.” I think he thought I was crazy, but with 4 kids, I never hear quiet until the whole house is still.

  199. This morning – waiting at the dentist office for one of my kids while my husband took our toddler on a coffee run. I got some good Bible studying done in that short time.

  200. Last quiet moment: the 15 minutes this morning between when I got up and my 3 year old got up

  201. Last night after the girls were in bed and my husband and son were out of the house for the evening, I took a bath, but then I proceeded to scrub the tub. Does that count?

  202. The last quiet moment I had.. RIGHT NOW as my children are outside on a nature hike with their daddy. I stayed behind to get dinner started and clean up play dough.

  203. Yesterday when I was nursing my youngest to sleep my older daughter who rarely naps these days was in bed with us….I was slightly annoyed at her monotonous droning…..I mean “singing”…when I realized they were both asleep, together….perfect peaceful angels.

  204. My quiet moment was going to be right now {insert 5 year old} – so let’s try to dig back in my memories a bit further, shall we?

Until the time change I was getting up an hour before my children and reading my daily devotional. I was actually doing it – and then that whole time change happened, which frankly, I don’t understand. So I guess my last quiet moment was the day before time change. 🙂

Thank you for the chance to win a copy of your book.

    Tricia

  205. Oh Kristen I would love a copy of your book! My last quiet moment was riding in the car just about an hour ago with two toddlers sleeping and my two older ones plotting who knows what in the backseat (but quietly).

  206. I make an effort to wake early and have an hour of quiet reading time before my children wake up and our day begins. It is worth it!

  207. Oh Kristen! This just sounds EXACTLY like what I need! The quiet moments are few and far between, and sometimes, often times, it’s a struggle. By His grace, I am working on finding and knowing joy in the little, in the serving, in the giving. But what a blessing your book would be!

I am so excited to say that my last moment of quiet was this morning! A precious gift from my husband on his day off, I was able to sit at a coffee shop for TWO hours by MYSELF!!!! What a gift … one that allowed me to breathe again. 🙂

  208. last quiet moment…. just now. i’m sitting here nursing my 4th babe, while her big brother’s at school and big sisters are downstairs watching dora 🙂
    ahhhhhhh…

  209. I was able to go get my hair done on Saturday….that was a nice quiet moment for me! 🙂 I try to steal away often as it helps me keep my cool and gives me some down time to re-charge.

  210. Oddly enough, right now, reading Ann Voskamp’s “One Thousand Gifts.” First quiet moment in quite some time!!!

  211. My house is often quite but my spirit isn’t. So, the last time I experienced real soul-quietness was when I lay in bed last night, all tense and uncomfortable and then I thought about Jesus. After I had turned my thoughts to Him a few times, He quieted and soothed my soul. It was lovely 🙂

  212. Quiet moment… in the shower every morning. I turn the tap on full so that I can’t hear any background noise and I gather myself and my thoughts for the day!!!

  213. Just a few moments ago, 3 of my 4 children (ages 4 and under!!) were enjoying their popsicles in our culdesack. I sat on the porch and had a moment quiet enough to read this post. Thanks

  214. My last quiet moment was last week while my husband was out of town and after a long day of activities with the kids had left me drained mentally and physically. (it was Spring Break here last week.) I had the kids down to bed and was enjoying the quiet of being the only one awake in the house. I was able to catch up on reading my devotionals for the week and it restored my soul for another busy day without daddy.

  215. To be honest, I’ve moved out of the baby bootcamp mode and into the last years of teenagers and into gramma mode. So really, my last quiet time was last night while number 3 child (17 1/2) was helping out at church with the Jr. High Group and number 4 child (almost 16) was helping out at church with the Awana Sparkies, hubby rubbed my feet while we watched a Netflix episode of Clean House. (I almost feel guilty for telling you this – knowing how crazy busy most young Mamas are these days).

Having said that, raising 4 kids was alot of work and I remember days thinking “oh my gosh, will this never end…I’m so tired…I’m so discouraged. But every day, I was so amazed that all four kids were clean and fed and sleeping (finally).

In the end, God had (and still does) my back. Every step of the way. My kids are who they are by the grace of God and it was only through Him that each day was a new day and I was able to get up and could love my babies with a smile and a prayer.

PS – If I win, I’m giving the book to my daughter-in-love who is the Mama to my twin grandsons, soon to be 6 months old!!

  216. My last quiet was this morning at 6:30 am. I get up before the kids just so I can experience the silence. I really do try to use that time to study the Bible, but to be honest…I usually just sit there with my cup of coffee and stare out my back window.

  217. My last quiet moment was at 5 am before anyone woke up. My children are all older, but there are still many difficult days. I’d love to read this book!

Thanks for this chance to win!

    Blessings
    Mrs. White

  218. I had a quiet time of sitting alone and watching a winter storm come in. What a powerful God we serve!

  219. My quiet moments usually happen in the car, but I really love to be in my house when no one else is home…it’s my sanctuary.

  220. I am a mommy of two little apples of my eye-a one year old and a two year old. As you can image, quiet moments are few and far between, but coming a little more often as my one year old son just started sleeping through the night a few weeks ago.
Anyway, I am very excited to be having a quiet moment this very minute. They both fell asleep in our van after running errands- so I ma just sitting here in the driveway letting them snooze, and enjoying the peace and quiet for a bit 🙂

  221. WoW! Quiet…. Really??? There is such a thing??? I’ve been through my own babies & now keep my grand babies …. Sooooo before they arrive I have my quiet time w/God.
I love it that they will hopefully remember seeing their “Li-Li” reading the Bible!

  222. I’m at the library right now, for work…so it’s very quiet! But with the kids…the last quiet moment I had was a week ago…my 4 1/2 yr. old talks non stop…and I was having one of THOSE mornings…so on the way to preschool I told her we were having silent time, and she went along with it! But the second I parked the car she started back in, “So Mom…” 🙂

  223. My last quiet moment was a couple of days ago when my husband brought my 3 boys to the park and I was able to make dinner in the quiet *bliss*.

  224. My few quiet moments come late at night, if I can manage to get them all to stay in bed. If the weather ever warms up, I’m hoping for some almost quiet moments while they play outside.

  225. The last quiet moment? I guess it was at 1:00 in the morning when I couldn’t sleep and so I got up to do some laundry. (I count the hum of the washing machine and dryer as ‘silence’ around here :-))

Thanks so much for the chance to win!

  226. My last quiet moment came a couple of weeks ago when I visited Ireland. Standing on the Cliffs of Moher as I watched the waves crash into the cliffs… it was amazing. Truly awe-inspiring.

  227. I loved this! My last quiet occurred two weeks ago when I found my two-year-old daughter asleep on the couch watching the evening news. It had been a particularly awful day and I asked her to please go sit down so that I could finish dinner without tripping over her. When next I went to search for her, I found her in her room “reading” to Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head. Classic!

  228. Um… I took a “nap” last Sunday between services while the kids played out side. I could hear them, it was a sweet noise, but because they weren’t actually in the house I consider that quiet. I think I may have even slept for a few minutes.

  229. my fav moment is at night when my 2 year is asleep and my husband is out of town. I just watch her sleep..so peaceful, so beautiful, so perfect, such a little blessing. thankful….

  230. I have recently discovered a great treasure in allowing myself to have my own thoughts…as my boys are playing outside I put in my ipod and walk the perimeter of our yard. The treasure is this…they think I am listening to music and can’t hear them so they don’t talk to me…when actually the ipod is just there for looks so that I can pray and walk for a few moments uninterrupted! When the ipod comes out they rush over to tell me about their fun and I get to thank my Father for sweet time with Him before tuning back to my children.

  231. My last quiet moment has lasted 9 months and 1 day. You see I am a mother, but my son lives in heaven. He was stillborn last June. Although I cannot personally relate to a busy, kid screaming, ready to pull your hair out type of motherhood….yet. I can tell you that I long for the days when I will be able to say, “Don’t make me come up there!” As for my last quiet moment in my head, wow it’s been a while! Your book sounds hilarious and uplifting. I would love to read it!!

  232. About 20 minutes ago. I snuck outside to sit on the deck and knit on this beautiful sunny afternoon! Of course, it didn’t take long for the 2 youngest to discover where I was and my quiet moment ended ; ) but that is okay … I’ll take enjoying the afternoon with my kiddos over quiet time anytime!

  233. Ummmmm…four kids and a hubby I don’t get too many quiet moments! 😉 I would have to say when all went to school and work and I had a empty house to have a cup of coffee& read this morning. Loved it!!! 😉

  234. Lunchtime–a lady from church came to hold my sick little one, and I had the opportunity to sit at the table and actually eat.

  235. When my husband is at home…I take showers…reeeaaaallly long showers!!! Ha!! And the “potty retreats” are one for sure…now that we’re all 5 temporarily in a two bedroom one bath house that’s become a little harder!!!

  236. Um…on the way home from friends’ house this afternoon. Kids (all eight) were exhausted and subdued in the van on the way home. I fretted at a strange noise, until I realized I was actually hearing myself think!

  237. I had to take my foster son to get tubes in his ears this morning. In the dark at 4:45, both babies (9 mos. & 13 mos.!) sleeping in the car, I enjoyed 25 precious minutes of eucharisteo!

  238. Hmm last quiet moment, whats that? I guess Id have to say the cruise I took in January without the kids!

  239. As the mom of 7, I’ve had many, many moments to be “ridiculously proud and horrified” of my children’s behavior — usually the horrified part comes shortly after someone comments on how well-behaved the kids are!! 🙂

And you’re absolutely right, Kristen – it’s a precious gift to be a mom. Thanks for the reminder…..

  240. I have a quiet moment pretty much everyday when my 2 year old and 5 month old are napping. I have them nap at the same time so, I can have a moment to myself. A good cup of coffee and a moment to re-charge are valuable.

  241. Today. We have “quiet time” everyday, but sometimes it’s a battle to get everyone quiet. Today, I painted my toes a nice spring color and rested my eyes between coats of paint. It was awesome!

  242. Was driving down the road, with my Christian music playing, to pick up my children after youth group. Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy of your book. God Bless!

  243. I have a husband that plays basketball at 6am, so he gets up around 5:30 …so I follow suit around 6…to have my quiet moments before my four start stirring. I home school them this year, so not too many quiet moments…but I love them all.

  244. Being a single mother, it is very difficult to have a quit moment. I always am hearing “mommy, mommy, mommy” so maybe around midnight I get a quiet moment to spend time with my heavenly father or when I am in the shower. My son is 4 and doesn’t sleep through the night I often wake to find him in my bed or before I even get to bed he’s already up and I’m back to putting him back to sleep. I love being a mother and am blessed to have my son every day in my life but it does get very hard and I just have to remember that God is there with us and helping us along the way.

  245. Quiet moments…do I have them? My favorite are finding my toddler “making crafts” out of random scraps he found laying around in my office or on his floor.

  246. My children are pretty good in having quiet times, with them often being found reading books themselves, however right now you wouldn’t believe it with the level of noise going on ( & the toys being scattered undoubtedly). I do however have quiet time each night – after they are in bed, the house is peaceful & it’s just Dave & myself – sometimes I even miss the noise!

  247. My quiet moment is when i first go to wake up my now 13 year old son. i look in his room and see him sleeping so peacefull. It breaks my heart a bit to realize how old he is. We have been trying for a baby now for some time…and praying to god i have another chance to be someone’s mom and have more precious moments. I didnt take enough small moments to realize the gift i was given with my son.

  248. My last quiet moment may not seem like a very quiet moment but I was trying to take a nap and my kids kept coming in for whatever reason and finally I just caved and we all lay down in my bed and we sang little kids songs together. It was very special and enjoyed by all!

  249. I never, ever thought I would say this but my house is now too quiet! We have 4 girls and 2 boys and our children are all busy with lives of their own. I miss the sticky messes, the quiet that usually meant trouble and I would about give anything to again hear my youngest son say ‘hey, I gots an idea!’
We are now waiting for the first grandbabies to arrive, first is due in mid April and the second is due in mid September, I am praying that our home will be blessed with the giggles and chaos that is life with little ones on a regular basis again.
Your book sounds like exactly the right thing to tuck into a gift for our girls who are expecting, I wish I’d had it when I was raising them 🙂

  250. I love 8:00 pm because that is usually when my kiddos go to bed!! Then it’s my quiet time!! 🙂

  251. Ha! I’ve *so* done that!!
My last quiet moment was just half an hour ago… the teenagers are occupied with tasks, and the 5 year old is playing on the wii… I got to sit and finish my book. Bliss.

  252. My last quiet moment is…. often. But I am at a different stage in my life – my child is in school all day and I work from home.

I have a lot of friends with little ones and I know they never get a moment’s quiet short of a near death experience (of their own) and I’d like to read this book and gift it along to one of them.

  253. We ended up in the ER with our 10 month old Sunday. Long story short they admitted him. It was a treacherous day. Several IV attempts a sick crying child….
I finally got him to nurse after several days of not eating because of ulcers in his throat. Then my sweet little boy crashed and was fast asleep in the hospital crib. Needless to say my eyes filled with tears and I sat in the quiet dark of the hospital room and thanked God.

  254. My last quiet moment was –is — now, as I’m hiding in my car, crouched on the back floor with my lap top. Five minutes– that’s all I ask! =]

  255. Most of my quiet moments are late at night or in the shower. I treasure the rare moments of quiet during the day.

  256. My quiet moment is now as my daughter nurses and my 4-year-old settles in for a late afternoon map. I peruse blogs and read my Bible for a few minutes, ignoring laundry and dishes, before the chaos erupts again.

  257. Your book looks great! My quiet time this morning took place behind the doors that hide my laundry area… with me seated on the washer… with a load going for noise blocking. This is my last resort before taking my Bible to the garage…

  258. Last night, after my 10 year old and my grandmother who we live with (and who has Alzheimer’s) were both in bed.

  259. My last quiet moment was driving to church all by myself on Sunday morning. I had to be there earlier than my family, and so my husband brought my kids in a separate car. The drive takes 20-25 minutes, and the sun was rising a beautiful orange-red.

  260. Last night, when my hubby got home from work, I told him I needed to take a bubble bath. He watched our two little ones and I enjoyed a few moments of peace and quiet and some delicious smelling bubble bath (which he actually bought me for Christmas). 😉

  261. This morning was my last quiet moment. When my youngest is at half day kindergarden. I enjoy the queit but I am so happy when she gets home. I miss her even for the short time.

  262. My last quiet moment was this afternoon while my girls all worked on a new sticker book.

  263. My last quiet moment was right before the kids got off the bus. As a stay at home mom with a part time home based business, I’m fortunate to have my days pretty quiet but love the noise of the kids telling me all about their day – all at the same time!

  264. My last quiet moment was Sunday when we were visiting my parents house. My mom and dad were gone and my two kids were visiting my sisters house. Only lasted about an hour or so, but I’ll take it when I can get it !!

  265. Quiet moments are few and far between here with 4 kids running about. As I type my 6 year old is singing something at the top of her lungs and its not very good. I try to wake up early every morning and have 1 hour of quiet to myself every day. I love sipping my coffee in the quiet of the house or on the back porch listening to the birds chirp.

  266. I try to get up before the kids to have some quiet time; but it’s often interrupted by talks with my husband – which is also great, or cuddles with a little one. I used to be so upset with myself because after going to Bible college and before having kids, I could always have regular quiet times. Then, when kids came along, my sleep was so precious, I found it hard to focus on a “quiet” time. When the church we were in went through 40 Days of Purpose, I was so encouraged by the worship aspect and realizing that my worship was – at the time – even changing diapers or washing dishes. It was my heart and attitude that counted. Since then, as my kids have gotten older, I have been able to make more of an effort to get up before them in the mornings. But I can encourage young moms to not be hard on yourself. Take advantage of those anytime moments to worship.

  267. I really don’t know when my last “quiet” moment was. I’m sure there are plenty every day, but I haven’t quite figured out how to enjoy them or know when they are here. I do love my early mornings before the rest wake up.

  268. Tonight actually…my four boys r at two different grandma’s and my husband had to go to Cali for a last minute business trip. I don’t even know what to do with myself and neither does my doggie he is staring out the window looking for his boys! I got a chick flick at redbox and a blanket though so I can suffer through it;)

  269. Ok, this isn’t going to be pretty….but my last quiet moment was last week at around 10am of a typical homeschooling day. I walked out. Left home. Headed for the woods and walked for miles till I had no tears left. I have lost my joy somewhere along the way. From a cancer diagnosis for my four year old in 2008 to the doctors announcement that my husband will need a liver transplant in the future. The bottom sorta dropped out of my organized and comfy life and my joy went with it. Not giving up or looking for pity. I intend to find my way back. But I AM kinda lost right now. Someone hand me a flashlight……

  270. we live in a windy area, we live with the windows open on nice days, we live with sheets for curtains. i hid behind a blowing sheet, and it was quiet, for a couple of moments.

  271. I’m having one right now as a matter of fact. Sweet Man and the kids are beginning a crystal experiment in the kitchen, leaving me to find something to amuse myself. And I think I can do that. Many blessings!

  272. my quiet moments come when the kids all head to the basement. I am like you and never know what I will find behind the closed doors….4 year old launching himself off the tall dresser or kids all quietly playing ‘church’. Can’t wait to read your book!

  273. Quiet moments are hard to come by with 3 boys under 5! I think mine was on a quick drive by myself to the store!!

  274. my last quiet moment was in the middle of the night when I laid there awake wondering if the garage door was still open and went quietly downstairs to see that it wasn’t and took a moment to feel everyone home quiet and peaceful. It was perfect.

  275. I have started getting up early and have come to love my quiet hour first thing in the morning, before my kids wake up. Such a perfect way to start my days!

  276. It is hard to remember the last completly quiet moment that I had. I am a nursing instructor so there are many mornings that I have to be at the hospital by 6:00 am to prepare for the students arrival. On these mornings, I am so thankful that my husband doesn’t mind playing Mr. Mom and getting our 3 year-old dressed and to the babysitters. As much as I hate waking up at 4:00 in the morning, these are the mornings when I usually am able to have uninterupted quiet time. I normally choose to indulge myself with an ice cold Diet Coke and spend some time with the Lord. Leading 10 nursing students through the wirlwind that is nursing school requires a lot of Devine intervention. I tell my students that without The Word washed down with a little Diet Coke, I would be absolutely worthless to them at 6:00 in the morning!

Would love to read “Don’t Make Me Come Up There” !

  277. Kristin,

I had an intentional quiet time this morning while reading Psalm 112. I then had periods of quiet thourghout my school day with 26 1st graders.

There was a time when my quiet came in the middle of the night while feeding a baby, during nap time with toddlers, while homeschooling my five children, or during homework time with young adults.

Now my time is ever morning before meeting with anyone I start with the word, prayer and conversation. You can check out some of those conversations at my blog.

I am not a young mother, but a grandmother now, and a women who mentors young women to intentionally plan quiet not only each day, but each Sabbath and also by getting away with just the Lord 4 times per year at least.

Some of my quiet places are Kings House, Pacem in Terris, New Hope Church Prayer Room, and a Prayer Cottage in Scandia, MN.

Joy and Peace to you, Beth

  278. My quiet time is in the morning after I bring my daughter to high school at 7:15 a.m.; bring my middle school son to the bus stop at 7:35 a.m. and come back to the house where it is quiet until I need to wake my elementary school son at 7:50 a.m. Then the day gets started as we both get ready to go to school. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  279. I try to have my quiet time before I go to bed at night or I will get up a little early and start my day with some quiet time.
Your book looks like it would give my quite the laugh!!

  280. I’ve been waking up earlier and earlier every morning to start doing quiet times, but the earlier I wake up, the earlier my triplets wake up. If I try to go to bed early and have quiet time there, they sleep walk and disturb me. It’s like they know when I’m trying to have a quiet moment.

  281. My last quiet moment was this morning. My husband left for work, I got up waiting for my adult daughter to come down the stairs to go to work. Read my devotional and waited. The quiet became deafening so I called her only to find she had left early to have some blood work down. Then I could really enjoy my quiet moment.

  282. Every morning after I get the kids off to school I pray-talk to God out loud. I started doing that after reading one of Peggy Joyce Ruth’s books and have really improved my quiet, peaceful times with Him! God Bless you and Maureen in the Mercy House project.

  283. I had a quiet moment last week while my kids were staying with my parents for a few days. I was really looking forward to the peace & quiet….and instead found myself bored & missing my kids!!! 🙂

  284. My oldest is 14 so I suppose my last real quiet moment was about 15 years ago. Actually, I always have quiet time before going to bed. It gives me time to reflect and unwind.

  285. This great book would be a gift for my lovely daughter-in-law, who is doing an amazing job mothering our two little grandgirls. I have now too many quiet, alone moments with just one very big boy left home. But I know she grabs her infrequent alone times when our son comes home from work, plays with the girls and she retreats to their basement and her treadmill – of a different sort 😉 than the usual; dirt, dishes and diapers one.

  286. I am currently enjoying a quiet moment, as my amazing husband sleeps and my sweet dog snores on his cushion 🙂
    Thanks for a great giveaway!!

  287. I totally saw myself in that first paragraph! I have lost my patience only to discover my kids doing something so loving with one another! I have quiet moments in the day when the older child helps the younger one but the quiet only lasts a minute or two since the middle one is usually demanding my attention. This is okay though since I will have many quiet moments when they are all grown up. For now I just reminding myself of this 😉

  288. With the oldest in school and the youngest having a nap… this is my quiet moment!

  289. TODAY! My 6-month-old and my 3-year-old took a 2 hour nap AT THE SAME TIME!! lol

  290. My quite moments come in the early morning when I rise soon after, or before, the sun and before the rest of the slumbering house. I must carve out these times to keep my sanity and a renewed spirit in the Lord. This morning it was at 5:20 when I awoke to a sweet curly haired baby girl in need of clean sheets and dry jammies. The sweet kisses and hugs and “I love you mommy,” was well worth the interupted sleep!

  291. In the car, while my children sleeps…and my husband bring the dvd player and a movie. We watched it in our own parking !

  292. I would so love this! The last quiet moment I had was the 30 minutes of my one and two year olds naps that actually overlapped today. Must be thankful for the little things!

  293. This past week was our Spring Break in AL. I’m a teacher and have 3 children of my own. Love ALL of my precious ones, but loved the break. One night I actually got to have a date with my awesome hubby!! Two days out of the week, I was totally alone. Thanks to my wonderful mom and sister for taking care of the kids!! I had a precious time with the Lord, got some rest and other things accomplished. It sure was quiet in my house!!

  294. When I turned off the car at school right before going to pick kids up for dentist appointments.

  295. Define quiet. 🙂 I’ve got 3 little boys…so i’ve gotten so used to the noise (that is oh-so-precious) that i can’t even relax in dead silence anymore. Even when I get a quiet moment…I quickly turn on some music or something. But…the still quiet moments with the Lord are such a treasure to me when I get them. 🙂

  296. My last quiet moment…that would be last Tuesday when I met with a friend at Starbuck’s for our study of 1000 Gifts. I know that might not sound like a “quiet” moment…sitting in a busy, noisy Starbuck’s at 9 p.m. with someone talking to me, but oh how it is truly quiet to me. I can sit and discuss Scripture and another good book with a friend, being open and transparent without anything interfering…it’s a quiet moment for me.

  297. My last quiet moment would have been this morning in the van after the 6 year old was on the bus and off to school for 2 1/2 hours and the 4 year old was at pre-school for 3 hours while my happy 12 month old was wondering why I had to wake her up and put her in the van again. I spend so much time in the van since my oldest is in half day, everyday Kindergarten that I usually spend that time in prayer. I have many stories of bald heads and showers of baby powder with my two oldest. I know I would love your book!!

  298. My last truly quiet moment was 5 months ago while watching my husband kiss our then one month old daughter goodbye before getting on a plane for a year long deployment. As hard as it is being a single parent while trying to finish my BSN I know I have it a million times better than my dear husband who would give anything to hold his little girl again. Now, I try to dedicate 30 minutes every morning to myself. After changing Dani’s diaper I pop in a Praise Baby DVD for her while I enjoy a cup of coffee, catch up on blogs, and read my Bible.

  299. I have 8 children, so finding quiet time is pretty limited! Usually my quiet time is right before bed when all my kiddos are tucked in and sleeping. Let’s just say, I stay up way too late! But those quiet times are precious.

  300. My memory must be excedingly short because for the life of me, I can’t think one, other than this one. The two older kids have been in bed since 8:15, which is the first time in three years at least! 🙂 Let’s just say that two very hyper sisters feeding off each other AT THE LIBRARY ended up with me nixing bedtime snack and sending them straight off to bed.

    Thanks for an awesome giveaway!

  301. Last night when I was up for 3 hours in the middle of the night and unable to sleep, so I prayed a lot, that was my last quiet moment and those are hard to come by!! Thanks and hope I win!!!

  302. My quiet moments are in the evening once my 2 year old is in bed. Before we had her, my favorite me time was in the mornings where I got ready at a snails pace. I watched the news, lounged around in my robe and things were slow. Mornings will never be the same! I miss those mornings sometimes and that’s why I need your book. Nice to know other moms experience these things. I actually just heard about your book today and bought 2 copies on amazon….one for me and one for a friend. However, I want to buy all of my mommy friends a copy. so I really hope that I win! Thanks!

  303. I cannot wait to read this book whether or not I win! 🙂

My last quiet moment was the other morning will all three of my kids climbed into bed with me and we snuggled up close. There was still sleepy eyes and cuddles, I thought this is why I became a mother…then thirty minutes we are all awake and the middle one was pushing the youngest off the couch…the life of a mommy!

BTW, I have been loving your website!

  304. I’ve had those moments, too. I guess, what momma hasn’t? My last quiet moment was when I dared take a shower today, leaving my 3 and 5 yr olds unsupervised, only to find that they indeed made no messes, only lego creations while I was away. Ahhh…

  305. Today on the way to target. I looked back andone was asleep and the other two were watching bubble guppies!

  306. I’m pregnant with #3, and spent my last quiet moment taking the 3-hour blood glucose test. Three whole hours! I actually was able to crochet with out my 2 year old daughter or 1 year old son pulling apart my rows!

  307. I don’t honestly remember my last absolutely quiet moment. I just spent 2 hours in a laundry room reading for an exam for my marriage counseling class, with the washers/dryers rumbling. Monday, I took a bath while my husband watched our girls (the oldest is almost 4, the younger of the two is 18 months). This lasted for about 10 minutes, with the younger one crying because she wanted to see me, and finally, my husband letting both girls come in to see/talk to me. I don’t know what it’s like to have it be just totally quiet anymore. I love my family, going to seminary, etc. and I know some day I may just miss the craziness of it all, but I would love to just have a breather sometimes.

  308. Thank you for this giveaway! My quiet moment happens when I nurse and snuggle my baby while reading a devotional book on my Kindle!

  309. Well quiet doesn’t happen very often at our house since we have 8 children (6 are boys), both of us work full time, I coach baseball, and we’re getting yet another senior ready for college……I loooove my sleep but I love my quiet time more sometimes…..that’s why I get back up in the middle of the night just to truly be still and know that He is God, breathe, or sometimes escape in a really great book:) Amazing how He can renew me and restore a positive state of mind again!

  310. As a Parenting Coach, this title quickly caught my eye and interest. Sounds like a book full of ideas and tips to make parenting more fruitful and enjoyable. That’s what my work is all about. Would love a copy to add to my repertoire of good and Godly reference material for Parents! Thanks for the Give-Away!

  311. Last quiet moment was when DH took the kids out of the house to the swimming pool the other day. I am so lucky – he is such a sweetie. But the pool closes soon so I can’t say when the next quiet moment will be!

  312. Oops, forgot to mention that my Quiet Moments sandwich most days … with time spent at the dawning of the day in His Glorious Word … and at eve’s end, more reflection and prayer with, among others, some blog sites such as http://www.aholyexperience.com, my link to this site. Yes, I get sleepy on the eve’s end, but it eases me into Dream Land.

  313. I get up at six to read my Bible and pray. It usually gives me half an hour before my youngest wakes but he’s happy in his room for a while, I just make sure he’s not too loud! It’s a special time of day; a quiet house, a thoughtful mind and my Bible.

  314. naptimes have become my sanctuary. my journal, Bible, and books wait for the door to close with both girls sleeping. in the quiet, my soul is recharged.

  315. Right now. I got up before the children…and while I can hear my 2 year old talking to himself upstairs…it’s still quiet. *sigh*

  316. I am blessed to receive many quiet moment throughout my days. I get to drive to work by myself for normally an hour and an hour coming home. I get quiet moments before work and after my daughter goes to bed. I am grateful for all the quiet moments I receive because when my daughter is up, there is not a quiet moment!

  317. The only quiet moments I have these days are when my 2 and 4 year old are in bed! (Once in a while when they play together in their room for short periods of time… LOL)
This book looks fabulous! Can’t wait to read it.

  318. I so appreciate the intro. you wrote for this post/giveaway. How aptly it describes what I have experienced here in our crazy home!

  319. Hmmm, maybe last night when I locked myself in my room while the hubby was wrestling with the boys so I could play a word on Words with Friends – against my hubby 🙂

  320. A few nights ago, my husband and I had just finished brushing our teeth and getting ready for bed, we opened the bathroom door to the hall, and EVERYTHING WAS DARK & QUIET! All the children were actually in bed, ASLEEP! I don’t think this has ever happened so early in the evening …..nobody had snuck a flashlight to bed to look at books, nobody was “stalling” with excuses….. We enjoyed the quiet that lasted all night.

  321. My quiet moments come after my girls are in bed. As long as they STAY in bed. 🙂 I treasure my nighttime.

  322. My last quiet moment? While I was sleeping last night! 🙂 Actually I “fell apart” last Thurs. and my sweet, sweet hubby came home from work after lunch and gave me the rest of the day off by myself. It was JUST what I needed! And God met me in my quiet…such a gift.

  323. Having four kids means that I don’t get a lot of quiet time, however my alarm goes off at 4:30am and I (try to) use the next half hour for myself. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t, lol.

  324. This morning at 6:10am, before I got the middle two up for school. 20 mins of time of prayer and reading “Jesus Calling” – a great, short, powerful devotion.

  325. Quiet moments are few. I love the privilege of motherhood, but am often overwhelmed with the responsibility and frustrated when I cannot make more time to spend with God. My prayer is that I will learn to snatch moments with Him throughout the day when I cannot find a large chunk of time for Bible study.

My 20 month old keeps me hopping. In one day, she emptied may face powder all over the bathroom, ruined an outfit, and tried to clean her ears with a q-tip from the trashcan : ). Never a dull moment.

  326. Last night, multiple times in the night as I held a very sick little 8 month old against my chest. Counting her breaths, counting our blessings. So grateful she awoke this morning with less coughing, less wheezing, and running nose.

  327. Quiet moments are rare at my house, but I do my best to time naps for everyone to coincide and that “quiet time” while I get stuff done or relax is a wonderful time to enjoy the QUIET!
    Looks like a wonderful book!

  328. My only quiet moments come at the end of the day when all 6 kids are in bed. Really. No quiet moments here during daylight hours. Ever. I know I will miss these days someday. That’s what I tell myself when I’m ready to pull someone’s hair out.

  329. kids at school, work-at-home husband at his office, dog quiet……
not even praise music on…..just stillness and silence this hour.
Time to speak to my God and time to listen.

  330. Hmmm….the last quiet moment was yesterday after I had plunged the toilet of its 1/2 a roll of toilet paper, changed the 4yo who decided to dirty her pants for no apparant reason, disciplined the 5yo for throwing a fit, fed all 4 lunch, and had to lay down the law about naptime. Miraculously, all 4 little balls of energy fell asleep for a glorious 45 minutes. God knew I needed it to keep my sanity! 🙂

  331. Thankfully, my children are (usually) good nappers, so my last quiet moment was nap time yesterday as well!

  332. My quiet moment was similar to yours – it got toooo quiet. My boys were playing legos. Together. Quietly and without fighting. What a moment!

  333. Last quiet moment… unfortunately I made myself take one this morning. My grandmother passed away early this morning. I needed a quiet moment, to cry and talk to God. Moments like these remind us of what really matters. I’ve been loving on my kids more today, seeing them for the blessings they are and letting them know for sure, FOR SURE that they are loved. Thanks for the giveaway!

  334. My last quiet moment was sitting on the porch swing with my dear daughter-in-law last night after her girls were tucked into bed.

  335. I’m actually enjoying a quiet moment right now. Boys at school and preschool, hubby at work, dogs outside. Oops, phone is ringing. Not so quiet now.

  336. This week I have been getting up early (4:40 am) to go an serve a shift at a homeless shelter. The people that stay there are generally sleeping and I have brought my prayer journal and Bible along and enjoyed some quiet time with God.

  337. My quiet moment was just now out on the porch. All three kids are upstairs for rest/nap time, and it is a beautiful spring day – quiet to think, pray, read and write. I love it!

  338. Last quiet moment: baby is sleeping. 2 and 4 year old are outside enjoying the sunshine with their daddy…I am thankful.

  339. I can’t remember when my last quiet moment was (probably sometime in February), but my mom is taking my boys this weekend so I know I will get one this weekend!!

  340. This morning in the car before facing a shutdown SW Freeway. Enjoying the quiet without a radio or DVD player on.

  341. Quiet? QUIET??? 11:40pm yesterday when The Resistant Sleeper finally gave in :). The other 4 had already drifted off, and it took some doing to convince him that it wasn’t his personal “I get Mommy and Daddy to myself” time. But when I find accidental moments of perfection like you just described, I journal them so that I am certain to not forget!

  342. oh last night about midnight when as much work as was going to get done had been finished and we settled into bed and talked for a quiet moment before drifting off to sleep…then awakened by the 4 year old promptly at 7:30 this morning LOL

  343. My last quiet moment is right now! ALL FOUR of my little ones are napping at the SAME TIME! (Contented sigh) At least for the next few minutes…(cue hungry baby)… 🙂

  344. Let’s see, the last truly quiet moment was late on Monday night when everyone was in bed and I sat in the living room with the Word. It was good.

  345. I can steal one or two a day it seems, this morning while most of were still sleep drugged the older were getting ready for school and the youngsters and I were cuddling on the couch it wasn’t perhaps perfectly quiet but it was peaceful and THAT is priceless! Much better than the usual ‘you better…’ moments. Looks like I probably missed the win, but wanted to share anyway. :0)

  346. My quiet moments are usually in the car going to and from work. Just have to be careful to remember to pay attention to my driving!!

  347. Last quiet moment? My husband took our 3 children out to the park on Sunday for an hour. I did laundry, emptied the dishwasher and just enjoyed the silence :o) Thanks for the giveaway!

  348. Um, with nine children it is never quiet, I think. Even in my ‘quiet’ time’ it is not really quiet, someone usually pops in. But, I have gone to my mom’s house this past winter a few times (she is gone to FL) and it is insanely quiet! I am going this Saturday too, this time with no computer, yikes! Would love the book!

  349. Before my three kiddos wake in the morning…and after they’re all in bed around 9pm.

  350. to be honest….I can’t remember. Between being a full time student, mommy, wife, trying to keep up with everything has me exhausted at the end of the day! this would be a great “getaway!” thanks for the chance to win!

  351. My last “quiet moment” was Sunday evening. I’ve been fasting on Sunday for Lent and while my family was eating a most delicious meal I made, I had gone into my bedroom and spent time seeking.

  352. My last quiet moment was reading in Barnes and Noble just this afternoon. I “stole” an hour before picking up kids from school and even enjoyed a starbuck’s coffee while reading.

  353. My last quiet moment was sitting with my three kids on my lap and beside me with the family dog on my legs and my husband cooking dinner. The kids and I (and the dog) were all laughing at the t.v. and just sitting.

  354. My last quiet moment was Saturday morning. I got up at 5 am to be alone and read and contemplate awhile before my crew woke up. I meant to start some chores around 7 and get some things accomplished but I crawled back in bed and went soundly back to sleep.

  355. Right now.
All eight of my kids are in bed even though it’s early afternoon down here in New Zealand. It was a precaution to prevent me from needing to say, “Don’t make me come up there!” – so I’m treasuring a few minutes online!

  356. I actually have quite a lot of them now…my baby is 21 😉 But the grandchildren have started to arrive – time to get busy!

  357. My last quite moment, during child awake hours, was when I found my son quietly playing dolls with his sister b/c she requested it. Other than that, it’s the moments I steal in the morning, before they get awake, to exercise or be with the Lord.

  358. Today for a few brief moments when my 2 year old finally fell asleep and my 3 year old and I laid down on the bed for a little rest. It was heavenly.

  359. my last quiet moment, was a couple days ago. I just finished up feeding the baby in his room and came out to a quiet hallway, looked for my 4 yr old and found him just finishing making my bed. he said, “I’m making your bed mom, because i know you like it when your room is clean.” I’m glad i can choose to share a good quiet moment on this occasion! thanks for the giveaway! i would love to read your book.

  360. My most recent quiet moment was outside in the pasture and around the barn with my chickens and horses…the children were inside making something “special” for me and I was outside today on God’s most warm and green day yet…the “ladies” (hens & mares) were following me around to see if I would pet them or if I happened to have a little treat, all the while I was thinking about how blessed by the Lord myself and my family truly are.

  361. My last quiet moment was this afternoon during my son’s nap….took a [short] nap myself, and then tackled the budget. He’s almost three, and hasn’t given up his nap yet….so maybe I’ll continue to have some quiet moments during the day!

  362. We moved in to our new home with beautiful (creaky) hardwood floors a few months ago. The baby, who is not a fabulous napper, was apparently exhausted from the transition and slept for over two hours giving me a chance to curl up with a hot cup of tea and watch the snowflakes fall down from the Minnesota sky (no way I was going to get up and chance a floorboard creaking!).

  363. We moved in to our new home (in a new city) with beautiful creaky hardwood floors two months ago. The baby, who is not a fabulous napper anyway, was apparently exhausted from the transition and slept for over two hours giving me a chance to curl up with a hot cup of tea and watch the snowflakes fall down from the Minnesota sky (no way I was going to get up and chance a floorboard creaking!). Ever since those first weeks, the baby figured out we were staying and isn’t so sure – which means she “expresses” herself more often during designated quiet times. Peace & quiet are on the horizon…has to be!

  364. Singing and rocking my baby boy (he’ll be 1 in two weeks -gasp!) at bedtime…in between songs, he looks up at me and chuckles and lays his head back down on my chest. My 3 girls never let me snuggle with them like this!

  365. This is the quiet moment I have right now: 10:18 p.m.; kids asleep; husband gone to bed; and I am staying up a little later to leisurely page through sites and catch up on reading. Delightful.

    Courtney

  366. Pretty much every night after my daughter falls asleep (she’ll sit and talk to herself for awhile sometimes). I also love the quiet moments when she wakes up in the middle of the night and settles down as soon as you pick her up, and she just lays her head down.

  367. O.k. last weekend my husband took my kids on one of their ever popular very long bike rides. I decided to declutter our office/craft area using Tsh’s ideas in Organized Simplicity. It has needed it for so very long, probably as long as we’ve lived in this house. While they were gone, I decided to listen to some Pandora and I had one of the best worshipping times, alone, than I’ve had in a very very long time. The Spirit was here, entirely and it was completely beautiful. In fact, I tried to explain it to my husband and he didn’t quite get it. The alone time was wonderful.

  368. It is now. After a fully birthday day and locking my keys in the car at the tail end of the day…I’m finally sitting and breathing and beginning to fill myself relax.

  369. The early morning hour as I sit with coffee and Bible, drinking in the strength I need for the day – listening to the quiet breathing of my family, and the snoring of the doggie!

  370. What is quite time. I thought it would get better once the kids went to school, but I find myself working on the house when they are not home. would love a copy of your book.

  371. I (try) to have my quiet moments from 4:30-5:30 every morning. It’s my time with God before everyone else gets up. Sometimes I hit snooze for too long though…..

  372. Ah, I’m having a quiet moment right now as my 2 year old daughter naps! Great story about your kids reading to each other.

  373. I haven’t had a quiet peaceful moment in quite a long time. I sure could use one though…need to work on that. Your book looks like one I’d love to read : )

  374. my last quiet moment was after getting everyone down for their nap, I went outside and journaled under our new patio cover getting some much needed Vit D! We have nothing but woods behind our home and it was so peaceful w/my fav mug of coffee, my favorite pens and my journal book. ahhh

I can already tell I can relate to this book just by the little stories told. I hope I am a lucky winner!!

  375. Can’t remember the last true quiet moment. But…anticipating a lot of them next week…kids off to cousins and grandmas for a few days and me here alone…all day…alone…

  376. The last quiet moment I had was sitting in the car waiting to go in the house. I was waiting because I’d just gotten phone calls from each of my children in a row telling me what the other kid was doing wrong. I mentally pat myself on the back for answering them calmly with an “I’m pulling in right now. I’ll be right in to help you”. Really, it’s the best I could do. But then I sat there for several minutes just appreciating the peace (before the storm)

  377. Naptime! Sometimes. My 21 month-old is a pretty regular napper, but my 3 1/2 year old is napping less and less often. I’m 4 months pregnant, and just recently discovered that if I climb into bed with her, more often than not she goes right to sleep…and so do I. 😉 30 minutes later I can sneak out of her room and have some peaceful moments to myself!

  378. I have definitly had the kind of experienced that you described with my 4. What a crazy, wonderful, humbling experience parenting is. It is a gift from the Lord to tranform me into Christ’s image. I’m a slow learner.

  379. Right now as I hide in my room putting the baby to sleep. I just hear the wonderful sound of my husband coming home and my boys shouting “dad!” so now I can extend my moment of peace.

  380. it was last Thursday as i reading People magazine IN THE HOSPITAL BED AWAITING SURGERY!!!! It was quiet alright! I’id really love to win your book! thanks!

  381. I don’t have kids yet, so my quiet moments are frequent. However, when I am with my 6 year old niece and 5 year old nephew, I like to play the “who can stay quiet the longest” game with something totally dumb as a prize…like 1 m&m, or getting to brush their teeth 2nd when going to bed.

  382. My last quiet moment was this afternoon while I cleaned the bathrooms in peace while my older two watched a little tv and my youngest napped.

  383. The book light’s soft glow while children sleep…soft snoring beside me while I read…quiet peace before rest…a nightly routine that nourishes me.

  384. My last quiet moment…does nursing my baby at 5am count? It is the most quiet it gets around here right now.

  385. Tonight! Wow! My husband was kind enough to watch kids while I got to go finish a sweet silky blankie for my 10 month old who loves to “feel!” Not much time to sew lately so this was a true blessing! Your book sounds great – the joy of a mommy and the reality!

  386. after midnight, when the rest of the house (kids, husband, animals) sleeps . . . that’s when I have a quiet moment! =)

  387. My girls went down for nap just a bit ago. I went outside to take pictures of my daffodils and hyacinths covered in snow. Beautiful!

  388. I love the title of the book…Don’t Make Me Come Up There!!!!!! Having raised 4 sons, I’m now a 60+ ‘nanny’ to 3 of my granddaughters!! So just reading the book title makes me remember and relive many great moments!! 🙂 Thanks for writing something for busy moms and granmoms to read…when they get a quiet moment!!

  389. wrapped in my busy morning, I happened to look out the window to see the sun rise golden on the aspens and birch of our farm. I dropped every busyness I had and headed out to walk in the quiet glorious morning to meet with Jesus. Coming back in I was envigorated, and at peace, ready to make it through this day the Lord has made!
