I only use my old fashioned non computer generated checkbook about twice a month. And I’ve noticed something. About half the time when I put the date, I write 2007 for the year. I’ve wondered why that year and then it hit me, 2007 is the year I started blogging. It’s the year I got busy with things other than bathing and feeding little boys. It’s the year I had to begin to learn to balance my passion with the limited time I have. And I’m still learning.
This week The President and First Lady visited the Queen of England. Two days ago, May 24, 2011 President Obama signed the guest book, you can see his words above. See the date? 24 May 2008. Yes he did. He accidentally put 2008. And 2008 was probably a pretty crazy year for him.
Sometimes when life gets crazy the days seem to blur together. And sometimes the only way to reset is to be intentional and create space. As much as I love blogging about my home and every single item in it, I really need to schedule down time. I’m planning on doing just that this summer. The President probably isn’t allowed the luxury of real down time, but most of us can create it, if we choose to.
For my dad that means one of the many things he does every morning when he walks the dog is to say the date and year to himself~kind of funny but pretty smart. He calls it dialing in. For Stephanie that means taking a vacation to decompress. For The Gypsy Mama that means taking a two month online break to love on a new baby. I’m not sure what that means for me yet.
Have you thought about creating an intentional down time of rest this summer? I’d love to hear your thoughts and get some ideas of what that means for you.
